  1. Thanks for starting this thread. I know it will only build my excitement for the set, as I had in mind to attempt some custom creations to spruce up the scene. Food vendors are a must, but in terms of future additions to a potential series, I'd definitely like to see a bumper cars stadium of sorts and/or the swinging ship some of you mentioned. The shooting gallery idea could be fun too, especially if they were to make it operational in some fashion (either by means of a gear system or Power Functions), but I wouldn't expect them to go that far.

  2. On the back of the new LEGO Store calendar, it lists the Mission HQ as being one of the new sets available when June hits. I thought these sets didn't launch until August? Has there been a change in the release schedule? (The fact that the app will be available next month might be an indication of such, unless they want to build hype ahead of their arrival.)

  3. Everyone who's been admiring the Mixer will be interested to know about the new LEGO Store polybag for the month of June: it's a balloon cart that would pair perfectly with this set. It's very fitting, albeit the ceiling is a tad high on this one. I'd have expected a $50 minimum, but this is likely to encourage purchases of the new LEGO Movie sets. Anywho, if you were planning on picking up the Mixer when it arrives on May 15th, you may be better off waiting until next month — unless you're already planning on picking up some other sets, in which case it won't make a difference to you.

I even submitted a Tilt-A-Whirl ride on Cuusoo, because it is my favorite ride and I really want to see a whole theme of the carnival.

I hope your project attracts more supporters now with the Mixer in the picture.

  4. Just realized that the process for indicating support has also been revamped, and for the better. Now it's in the form of a survey that really simplifies things, as it takes the thought out of questions like estimating a good price point. The comment box has also been removed — if you want to leave a comment, you can do so on the physical page for all (especially the creator) to see. Good move on their part.

  5. Liking the cleaner design and the focus on time left with listings. It's also easier to access projects that are presently in review and those that have achieved 10,000 supporters for the next period (through the 'Most Supported' filter), and I know that's a complaint that was had (and shared by me) with the previous setup.

I'm having trouble finding the verification email to import my CUUSOO account. It's not in my Spam folder...

    Mine came instantly.

  6. I wonder if the Ecto-1 and Exosuit will come out with CuuSoo or Ideas labeling on the boxes?

They'd probably let Brent/WetWired (Ecto-1 designer) know about that if communication is still ongoing, so maybe he can shed some light at some point.

  7. Well, a robot-like transformation is appropriate for the line. Thanks for sharing your design. Makes me think of platforming bosses -- the kind you might see in the Crash Bandicoot universe. That actually gives me an idea to work with once I start collecting Mixels.

Lovely to see the creative combinations people have come up with this last little while.

  8. Thank you for your meaningful response.

I too have never heard of brick paper until now, but then again, I don't have as much experience as you do with the hobby.

The part about techniques becoming second-nature is kind of what I was getting at. I suppose it's something that needs to be demonstrated over time, so I can't expect you to come up with definitive answers right now. I do see what you're saying about how a kit like this and the instructions contained therein would really make a difference for someone who goes about building in a less than intuitive fashion.

On the MOC bit: I have noticed several creations that have incorporated Technic pieces into their designs, though it seems that when such are used, it's done sparingly and with specific purpose in mind (usually to aid or add functionality). Anyway, that's something I'd like to learn more about -- if there's an awareness you need to develop as to when Technic elements would add lustre to a design -- so I'll wait and see what Kit 12 holds based on your upcoming review.

  9. It mostly depends on how much content the instructions include to guide FOLs to build therir own machinery amusement parks. If it works, it may be one of the most successful Technic-Creator set ever.

Anything done to foster inspiration for supplementary builds would be excellent. I'm not expecting anything of that sort to be included, but it sure would be a nice touch, especially seeing as I'm already giving thought to how I'm going to expand this set for a more active scene.

  10. Thanks for this review. Good to know that in order to emphasize nuances in structural design, they essentially went with partial builds over scaled models. Makes sense, albeit I think it would've worked just as well to pair smaller builds for key construction techniques, with one re-creation of sorts for application purposes.

Some facets of the educational component are interesting, but not enough that it lessens my reservations about this set (i.e., cost). Still, I am curious to know if some of the tidbits contained in the manual do resonate beyond the kit, and if so, how it affects a person's building style for the future. Is that something you can comment on? Did you find you learned a lot that you didn't consider before?

Look forward to your review on the invention kit.

  11. If you log on with your "Lego ID" account, then your vote will be attached to a record of every set you have ever bought through the Lego Store for the last several years... So yes, every vote from the hardcore AFOL demographic will now have more weight behind it.

It's a smart move on their part, for the purposes of tracking the kind of audience that could be in place for a particular project to do well on the market. When certain crowds flock to a given project, it could even motivate them to do R&D on a potential theme or a gap in an existing line that they've overlooked (e.g., Green Lantern sets).
