This is my first halftrack, and it turned out pretty well.

The Sd.Kfz (Sonderkraftfahrzeug) stands for special purpose vehicle, this vehicle is the largest halftrack that was produced in large quantities during World War II. It was used to haul heavy gun emplacements like the 15cm, 17cm, 21cm, and 24cm ; it was also used to tow damaged vehicles, one Sd.kfz 9 could pull 28 tons of weight. This allowed one vehicle to easily pull a Pz. IV and lighter variants but for larger tanks like the tiger and panther series, it would require 3 of these to pull one of them.

My model is powered by 2 XL motors that drive a 1:3 ratio then a 12:20 for the final drive ratio .The chassis is composed of studless parts so its a very rigid construct, on top of that is a studded cab and bed assembly. There are 3 M motors (winch, engine, steering).

Features of my model

-torsion bar suspension for interleaved road wheels

-front axle is a live axle suspension

-utilizes a braked differential for ease of turning long tracks

-headlights

-continuously idling V6 engine

-steering wheel rotates when steered

-motorized winch

-folding windshield

-easy removal of battery box

Great work. I'm not sure if its true to the original model but I'm not a fan of the gaps near the engine

it had panels that were removable, i choose to not have them because it shows the engine

Looks good. How come you use the gray dishes so often?

The interleaving roadwheels look better than regular gears and the light bley ones are way more common than the dark bley 6x6 dishes.

Awesome! Overall very fine moc. Love the hood section. Lot of work went into the front mudguards, I know how tricky they could be to make them round.

Those technic bricks 1x6 with holes at the bottom of the hood section...are they attachment points for the hood's panels? I dont like those holes to be so visible.

Looks great, and I too am impressed at the speed at which you build.

One question; the front mudguard heights look odd. Is the model coming apart a little, or is it part of the build?

the aren't comming appart, the wheels would make contact with them so the had to be raised a little higher when the front suspension is compressed .

Ah right, so they are linked to the suspension and move independently?

they are affixed to the front bumper.

In that case, from the pictures, it looks like there is a 1 to 1.5 stud misalignment with respect to the height of the front mudguards. I don't think it's a perspective thing, as it appears from more than one viewing angle.
