Kroes Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Hi, I recently received a copy of the set 42030. I have found that the XL engine seems to be much noisier than the M or the L. In particular, if I do go in a clockwise direction the noise is not much, but if I do rotate counter-clockwise increases the noise, there seems to be of 'internal friction. Also putting it in motion and keeping physically in the hands , if I move it I feel that turning the noise changes. is normal or do you advise me to send him back to the assistance lego? Thank you Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I know XL motor can be very noisy if there is something pressing sideways on its output... Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I don't own any XL motors so I can not be sure but that does not sound good. Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Why bother answering then Paul B? :-) Well, I have three of them and find them all quite loud, especially when under high stress. If I may extend the primary question - I have a feeling that XLs work in kinda waves. It can be also seen in many videos of MOCs with gearboxes in low gears. Can anyone explain? Paul B Technic Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Why bother answering then Paul B? :-) Because after over 12 hours they had only one reply. I was saying that it didn't sound good / right from my experience with other motors. Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Sorry there Paul B, didn't mean it so hard as it sounded, just found it funny and had to comment ;-) Back to the problem: I guess comparing to another XL motor would be the first to do, if possible...otherwise, contact lego via official customer service, report your problem and see what happens. I had problem with my servo from the Crawler. It jumped rapidly from one position to another - reported it and got a new servo no questions asked! I found it quite amazing, they didn't even ask for video or to send the broken motor back... Edited August 15, 2014 by MajklSpajkl Quote

Thank you Paul, your experience is also useful Sorry there Paul B, didn't mean it so hard as it sounded, just found it funny and had to comment ;-) Back to the problem: I guess comparing to another XL motor would be the first to do, if possible...otherwise, contact lego via official customer service, report your problem and see what happens. However, in any event, the assistance lego is so efficient? Edited August 15, 2014 by Kroes Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) However, in any event, the assistance lego is so efficient? I wrote the TLG customer service around New Years eve 2013, got first reply on January 3rd 2013, the package with new servo was delivered on Januay 22nd 2013 - no questions asked - short message on the customer service form was sufficient, couldn't even explain the problem well (IMO at least), because there is text legth limitation . I find it strange, because such helpfulness could get abused - I guess if I reported similiar problem again they would lift their eyebrows . I do recall that the site says something about possible further investigation of the problem if needed. Obviously my case wasn't alone so they automatically solved the problem. I've also been told by my fellow LUG members that reporting a missing or broken piece is usualy very successful. Best regards, miha P.S.: I think such efficieny of LEGO customer service is well paid in advance, don't you think ? Edited August 15, 2014 by MajklSpajkl Quote
