JackBricks Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Well, Hello everyone! I'm brand spanking new here, so if I'm doing anything wrong, please tell me! I've been lurking for several years now so I have sort of an idea of how things go here? Anyway, on to the topic at hand. I was fiddling with some orange curved bits I have, I think they were armor plates from this set, and thought they would make interesting legs for some sort of robot. So I loaded up LDD and put this together. Say hello to the very creatively named Orange Robot! He's very orange and looks a bit like he's wearing MC Hammer pants. What do you guys think of him? I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to post photos from LDD. Quote
VK-318 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Welcome to Eurobricks! And my, that Exo-Force tank is something of a blast from the past. A little garish, no? The robot is an excellent build, and I like the way you integrated those plates into the legs. Maybe some shots from behind would be nice, though, to see a bit more of how he's put together. That weapon in the right hand/at the end of the right arm looks great too; maybe some pictures that show some more of it? Quote
JackBricks Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 That tank certainly was a dayglo monstrosity, but it was charmingly ridiculous. I went ahead and took some more shots of the robot for you. (: Here's the rather plain backside, you can see the neck connection and a bit of the shoulder bone assembly. Here he is with the grasper lowered and a better view of his weapon. It's some sort of laser gatling cannon or something like that. It and the hand are both connected to the arm by mini friction joints. Here's a view with the front leg plates removed to show the (simple and probably not very sturdy) leg assembly. And finally, here's a naked shoulder. I tried to show off the shoulder armour build some how, but couldn't quite figure out a way to do it. Does LDD have an option to outline parts? Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 It looks good but you should try using the joints from certain Mixel sets so it's more articulate. Also, clever usage for the Battle Axes on the shoulders. Quote
JackBricks Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 I do have a few micro friction-ball joints in the arms, but I wasn't sure how to incorporate them into the legs without drastically redesigning. Though I have thought a redesign for the sake of better articulation may be in order. I'll play around with him once I get home from work. I'm not browsing forums at work what are you even talking about. Quote
JackBricks Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 This is a really nice design! My favorite bit is the legs. They really do look like parachute pants. And that's great. Thanks! The legs were the first bit I designed, like I said in my first post. I kinda designed it from the legs up, not knowing what I was going to do with the arms or head. I may order the parts to put this guy together if they aren't prohibitively expensive. (And I don't think they should be.) Quote
Toa_Of_Justice Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 This is a nice robot MOC! Does LDD have an option to outline parts? Yes, there is such an option! In fact, I use it almost all the time since the option became available in LDD. Open the Edit menu. Click Preferences. Check the box next to Outlines on bricks. Restart LDD for the change to take effect. I hope that helps. Note: Your computer will need to use more of its graphics resources to render outlined bricks. On some computers with low-spec graphics cards, the outline option may be grayed out (not available). -Toa Of Justice Quote
JackBricks Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 Oh thanks a lot, Toa. That's really useful. I haven't played around with him very much today, does anyone have any suggestions for it before I do? Quote
