Zerobricks Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) As polled in this topic: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98386 Combining topic and video comments/results the lead advatage was tatra 8x8, so I started building it yesterday. Today its finished and this is the first teaser picture: More coming soon! Edited August 2, 2014 by Zblj Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Looking forward to see more of this ;) Quote
Black-Build Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Chassis looks good, but the cab maybe can use some extra details... Quote
Rockbrick Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Looking good I've been planning to do this to my 8421 for ages now Quote
piterx Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 that's looking good mate! nice combo with studded and studless Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Here we go Lets start with the cab. I used a sliding axle so the doors slide out and open: The suspension is faithfull to the original and is quite flexible. The front 4 wheels use the springs which are placed sideways. The rear 4 wheels use the 9L links, which act as leaf springs. For steering I used an M motor with a worm gear and a 24 tooth gear. You can see the steering black links under the worm gear. You can also clearly see the front springs. A picture of the truck on our "newsih" grass: And here's a video with more details: Download the LXF here: http://www.brickshel...i_tatra_8x8.lxf A banana was injured during the filming process... It was good Edited August 3, 2014 by Zblj Quote
MrNumbskull13 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) I was hoping to see an AMG 6x6 but this turned out to be a great tatra dude! p.s. if you still feel bad about injuring a banana, maybe you should watch this... Edited August 3, 2014 by MrNumbskull13 Quote
Black-Build Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Looking good! I'd like to build it, could you take a picture of the underside and one from the chassis without the bodywork? That would be nice! MrNumbskull13 - WTF! Edited August 3, 2014 by Black-Build Quote
Doc_Brown Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Awesome truck! Looks really good with great performance too! I really like the body design. Quote

That would be nice! MrNumbskull13 - WTF! Thats why I added the LDD file, you can see everything there Thanks guys! I am also quite suprised how great it goes with "only" one XL motor. Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Very nice. ;) It was imposible to mount that leaf springs to the fron axles too? It would be more realistic, I think ;) (T. Kolos 8x8 had leafs both in front and back) Quote
barman Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Like always, great work Some very nice features in the suspension and steering. The 9L link is a wonderful and simple solution for suspension. It look very light accept the brick build cab Quote

Technyk32231 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) I love how realistic it is at this scale. It looks like a lot of fun to drive! You know, you should also build the AMG 6x6 and see how it compares to its "big brother". Edited August 3, 2014 by Technyk32231 Quote
m0dulo Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 And here's a video with more details: ... and a great soundtrack! Quote

Rockbrick Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) If only it had diffs .... But it his the most perfect tatra chassis replica at this scale ever.... In the winter my 8455 and 8421 plus a brickink order no doubt, to make the chassis at least I keep coming back to it in ldd Edited August 4, 2014 by Rockbrick Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Can I see the steering geometry?, is the best and the most difficult part to do for me. It is difficult that the steering can´t be affected by the suspension. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) I see that you have the problem in your Tatra, when the suspension works the wheels change their steering angle. Just solve that problem and build a perfect steering is what I like of building Tatras. I know real Tatras haven´t got a perfect steering but I like to build it . Zerobricks Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 I think its realistic as it gets: http://youtu.be/hpi6v8ZwWqU?t=2m24s Quote
legomuppet9 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Awesome Tatra And numskull... I think you need to see someone Quote
Doc_Brown Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) I've often wondered how Tatra suspension should go, and that in reality the cycle of the suspension does in fact change the steering angle slightly. Thanks for that vid! Awesome Tatra And numskull... I think you need to see someone No the guy in the video does! I was hoping to see an AMG 6x6 but this turned out to be a great tatra dude! p.s. if you still feel bad about injuring a banana, maybe you should watch this... When I found out this guy was Australian, I felt quite sad.... But yes this is off topic. Edited August 5, 2014 by Doc_Brown Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I've often wondered how Tatra suspension should go, and that in reality the cycle of the suspension does in fact change the steering angle slightly. I spent hours watching tatra´s steering because I couldn´t understand how it works without turn wheels when the suspension works... at last I found that it is not a perfect steering because the trasmision shaft doesn´t allow to put the track rod correctly (real tatras). I solved the problem in my Tatras raising the transmission shaft above the track rod, you gain correctly steering but using more pieces and having worse trasmision (they were not truck trials). Quote
