Erik Leppen Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 As soon as I saw the contest, I thought, what could be nice as a 200 part set? I was digging through my wheels box and I noticed the wheels from the Creator 31006 set, the white sports car of last year, and I already imagined these as the wheels of a nice red-and-black Technic mini-supercar. That was how this Technic Mini competition entry came into existence. This is where I am now: (Sorry for the bad picture quality, they're taken with my phone.) This is the second version. This is 192 parts (the first one had 241 parts, hence I didn't post...). This means I have 8 parts left to spare for some adjustments. This will be done for sure, as I'm not 100% happy with everything. In particular the rear bumper should be a bit lower, and also right now it's only attached with a single pin, which means it can wobble. The front bumper could use some work as well and I think the 2x4 tiles at the sides are kind of out of place. Also I have no lights yet... It remains to be seen how much can be done with only 8 parts... I wanted to have two functions: steering in the front, and either suspension or an engine at the back. In the end I opted for suspension, I thought that would be more interesting as a play feature. The steering mechanism prevented me from having seats. Another challenge I faced was that the shape and functionality dictated me to use small parts (no panels), which means the parts count is racking up quite fast. barman Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Good one Erik. It's a great design. Perhaps a spoiler from the 8 remaining parts? This is going to be a great competition! So many good designs already posted. Quote
D3K Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Looks super cute! Love it! Especially the front! As for the rear, maybe just add another 1x9 beam underneath the one already there? Quote
Kelkschiz Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Cute and sturdy, just the way i like it! Perhaps there is room for a little more refinement to make it truly epic. Quote
grum64 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Even without the improvements you propose I think it's a terrific little thing! Edited June 11, 2014 by grum64 Quote
Rockbrick Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I'd be interested to see how the steering works Quote
Erik Leppen Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 Update! I finally found some time to make a few changes. I kept the basic design, but made a lot of small changes. In particular I removed all System parts, because I wasn't happy with the lack of design coherence. So it's now a full Technic model. Personally I think it's for the better :) I changed the front bumper, because I wasn't happy with the holes on the sides. I think it's better now, because it's studless and fits in more with the rest. Also it's now connected to the part above, which increases rigidity. I moved the rear axle one stud backwards for better proportions. I changed the sides in front of the rear wheels to something studless. I also replaced the axles above the rear wheels by long beams because these look better. This induced an updated rear end, which I think is better as well now. The sides of he roof have changed from axle connectors to beams which I think is better too. It's now at 190 parts.
