Blakbird Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 It seems it was only a few years ago that a new supercar was released (8070) and everyone was complaining that it was red. "Why is it red?" everyone said. "The market is flooded with red parts and MOCs! We want something else!" Oh how foolish we were. Today, red 5x11 panels, red #3 connectors, and red flex axles are becoming impossible to find and everyone is screaming for more red. Since I just happened to finish building Brunojj's Ferrari 458 Spider this weekend, I thought it was a good time to get out some of my red cars and do a bit of a photo retrospective. So here you go: Six magnificent red cars from six magnificent builders More and bigger pictures at my Bricksafe. I have intentionally not identified the other cars here so you, the readers, can have some fun! All of these were built from amateur instructions. Thank you AFOL community! Quote
Conchas Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 42029 will solve at least the 5x11 red panels problem, for a while. Quote
Pat-Ard Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Yes, thanks to heaven, the 42029 solves the shortage of the panels, bute there is still the problem with the #3 conector. I would really like a rollcage for my lime green Unimog, and reb would fit fantastic, but no, not for this price... Quote
Bricktrain Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 There is no shortage of #3 red connectors, different story with #4 in yellow though. Still too much red. Quote
Pat-Ard Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Here in Germany is only one seller on Bricklink and he sells ONE of the conectors for 3.48Euro each! Quote
legolijntje Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Blakbird! Stop building all the models, you make me jealous! But, seriously, all these cars together looks amazing! Very, very nice collection! But, you can't make any more cars, because your table will be too small to take a collection picture Quote

jantjeuh Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) I spy Sheepo's Mustang, Lipko's Supercar, Jurgen's Koenigsegg, Crowkillers' Porsche and Nathanael's Concept Car. The Ferrari 458 is new to me, it looks good though. Edited June 10, 2014 by jantjeuh Quote
piterx Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 what a nice collection :) i think the most beautiful ones are the lipko's supercar and the ferrari Quote
jantjeuh Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Ah, that 458 is by Brunojj, he made a new spider version of it apparently. By the way, if people are wondering where all the red soft axles and connectors on Bricklink went.. apparently Blakbird is hogging all of them Edited June 10, 2014 by jantjeuh Quote

And to think, the 42029 could have been fixing 2 problems if only they made the #3 connectors near the grill red instead of LBG And even without the rarity I don't understand why they aren't red. Suits that spot better imo. Quote

Suits that spot better imo. Would definitely look better with red ones... Maybe they had a ton of #3 LBG connectors that they had to get rid of... Could be the same situatiuon as this strange one here from a few years ago... The LBG smooth toggle connectors look completely out of place on the 8081 model... Quote
jonwil Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Most likely the piece budget for the set/line/year was used up and they didn't have a spot in for #3 angle connectors in red so they had to use a color already in production (in this case light bley) Quote
timslegos Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Wow all those cars look nice together, wish I could see them in person! tim Quote
Theo van Vroenhoven Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I would be interested to know how many (red) parts you need to build all these models? (Not at the same moment of course!) @Blakbird: do you have BrickStore files for all models? I guess that around 3000 parts would do... Quote
Meatman Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Surprised you didn't build the red American muscle car considering that you created the instructions for it. Edited June 10, 2014 by Meatman Quote

Blakbird Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 But, you can't make any more cars, because your table will be too small to take a collection picture Actually, I have 5 more red supercar MOCs that I couldn't include in the picture because there was no room! Erik Leppen's Zonda Erik Leppen's Bughatti Nico71's Roadster Crowkiller's Deluxe Supercar Madoca's Supercar Error: Running out of desk space. Please increase desk size to continue. Please discuss this with my wife. By the way, if people are wondering where all the red soft axles and connectors on Bricklink went.. apparently Blakbird is hogging all of them Guilty! And to think, the 42029 could have been fixing 2 problems if only they made the #3 connectors near the grill red instead of LBG And even without the rarity I don't understand why they aren't red. Suits that spot better imo. I would strongly guess that this was intentional. Part of TLG's recent strategy of making Technic usable by younger audiences has been color coding. For example, pins and axles come in specific colors. Most modern sets avoid similar parts in the same color. For example, they won't put 5L beams and 7L beams in the same color in the same set. They make them different colors so the builder doesn't confuse them. I bet they made the #3 connectors a different color than the #5 connectors on purpose so builders wouldn't confuse them. Sadly, this strategy has a negative impact on the appearance of a model. I would be interested to know how many (red) parts you need to build all these models? (Not at the same moment of course!) @Blakbird: do you have BrickStore files for all models? I guess that around 3000 parts would do... Yes, there are Brickstore files for all of them. You are right that there is a lot of part redundancy between them, so your guess is probably reasonable. Surprised you didn't build the red American muscle car considering that you created the instructions for it. I do have the American muscle car, but I am in the process of converting it to black. As you can see, I have too many red models (and I needed to pirate some of the red parts from it for the Ferrari). I also converted Crowkillers' red Gallardo to white and Jurgen's red Little Devil to blue. Quote
jantjeuh Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'd like to see a supercar in orange, give that a try? Quote
Erik Leppen Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Looking at this line-up, I think I like the Koenigsegg best of them all, the Ferrari being a very close second :) Anyhow, it's pretty cool to have this as a way to compare models by all kinds of different builders side-by-side (literally). It shows how different models can be :) I think it would be cool if you could do the same thing for "The Color Yellow", or any other color you have nice line-up for. Would be cool to see I think. You have the cars anyway, and you take great pictures :) Quote

White: I have only the Gallardo Yellow: Jurgen Sunbeam and Crowkillers Murcielago Blue: Jurgen Little Devil Silver: NK Supercar Black: I have a good sized collection here: Crowkillers Vampire and Muscle Car, NK Pony Car, Skyliner Countach, Jovel dragon, Tonight I will try to remember to take pictures of the second group of red cars and the black cars. I'd like to see a supercar in orange, give that a try? I would love to do orange, but parts are a big problem. I rendered the Countach in orange: Quote
jantjeuh Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Is it me or does the front 'windshield' look really odd in that render? It looks almost 'squashed'. I would love to do orange, but parts are a big problem. What about lime? Polo-Freak: damn, that's beautiful! I love the orange! Edited June 10, 2014 by jantjeuh Quote
Trawler Man Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 This is a beautiful thread. I have been contemplating getting the parts for one of these well known MOC supercars, but i honestly don't like the red, at all. These pictures do make them look awesome, though. I think, eventually, i will build Sheepo's Mustang in white, or maybe yellow. That is, of course, if the parts are actually available in those colors. Quote
