legoman19892 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) Have you ever been so in the zone that you let your daily responsibilities slide? You know, your wife asks you to pay the bills, get groceries and pick the kids up at school during breakfast then the next thing you know it's 10:00 PM and you have no food to eat, the lights went out and the kids walked 10 miles home in the rain. All that for this: Edited May 21, 2014 by legoman19892 Quote
Paul B Technic Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I have missed lunch before due to building, what you have posted sounds like a much worse problem. Maybe you should get some help? Quote
emilstorm Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 That helicopter is worth it :D Before I met my wife, I could definedly just sit there for a whole day and build, and forget to eat and everything else in the process. If I had any time at all to build these days I am sure I would fall right back into that. Quote
Orange Leader Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 When building things for my own, I find It hard to stop when I get to the point of actual building. Sometimes I spend the whole evening without knowing It, so the building flow is good. I find It easier to stop when building from instructions, because there is no need for an creatieve flow to break and can be picked on again easily. Quote
mechamike Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I tend to build when the kids are asleep (and well fed) and all my other duties are done.. but I have found myself building until 4 i the morning and having a real trouble to get out of bed at 6 to be at work at 7.. sometimes i get into a building spree if im MOC'ing and just build and build.. Quote
HenrikLego Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I can relate to this, but I also try to do important things before I sit down to build. And for me it's important to set a time to when I should go to bed, so I'm well rested in the morning. Moc-building is so much fun, the time just goes to fast. Quote
Modulex Guy Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Haven't been at that point before. its more the other way around for me. Do all the important life things first, then I have the late evening/ night to build. I tell myself, oh I'll build for an hour or so, but then hours go by and it ends up being 3AM. But at least errands are done, bills are paid, work is done. Then I have some free time. Quote
eurotrash Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 There have been occasions when the red mist descends and I have to build and meals have been skipped. But the Dogs are always fed and watered, the wife kept happy and the chores done (albeit maybe deferred a bit). Quote
Milan Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I miss my training, or lunch sometimes, but never something so important like you (OP) stated. Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I always miss breakfast for this everyday. Except on Sundays. I also skip a lot of other activities when I get the big sets. Quote
iamwhoiam Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I typically build on Sundays when I have no responsibilities. I can build to my heart's content. Sometimes, when I do build on weekdays, I build late into the night... Quote
rollermonkey Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) I typically get to build after my wife and 4YO daughter go to bed, so there have definitely been a few too many sessions that ended as the sun was rising. Ooh! Look! Post #500! Edited May 31, 2014 by rollermonkey Quote

Ooh! Look! Post #500! Congratulations, you are now a knigget Sir Rollermonkey I am a little bit in the same boat as you, I just tend to be to tired to build when everybody goes to bed... Quote
talos Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I have sort of trained myself to refrain from Lego till afternoon, and I've gotten most things done. My other limitation is light, I have a skylight over my table, and poor regular lighting, so once it gets too late, I can't see well! Haha, summer has a lot longer day at least! Quote
grum64 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Oh yes. I build when I can for as long as I can and sometimes that's too long. Just ask my Darling Wife! Quote
rollermonkey Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) Recent example: I bought 42009, thinking that it would be a good, long build. Yeah, right. Four sessions, three days. First was 3pm -4am on a Tuesday to do the first three books with one pause to go out for dinner. The next day I went from 3pm to 8pm building the 4th and 5th books, then 1am to 4am building the boom. Later the same day, I took maybe an hour to connect the boom and finish the build. Now I'm already itching to build something else and it hasn't even been a week! N-4K0 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) Same story with me and 42009, actually. I got the set on a Tuesday, and spent 17 hours over 3 days. I blame the urge to see the complete model Other than that, I can't stop until I'm done whenever I have ideas I want to try out on a MOC. Edited July 10, 2014 by Error404 Quote
just2good Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Yes, very. I have an odd tendency where I cannot stop doing something until I'm done with a segment designated by that thing (i.e. a certain numbered bag in the set or the whole set). It sucks. Quote
Niloc Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 When it's not a busy day, I can sometimes be focused so much on building a model (I call it a "creative boost") that I don't see time flying by.... When I'm done I look at the clock and I'm like: "Woops, it's 1:00 AM and I didn't have dinner" Sometimes it's a bit scary! The key though is to build in small intervals, so that you don't get trapped in focus and you can get other things done in the meantime. Quote
Zerobricks Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Yeah sometimes I build well over pass midnight...And regret it the next day... Quote
