Xyver Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I wanted to add some extra shapes to my city buildings and prefer a modern style of building rather than the more tradtional. I see some nice round office blocks on my daily drive so thought I would try and replicate that. I would have preferred to have a completely mirrored glass exterior, but Lego just doesn't make those pieces, so this is what I came up with. Unlike my normal builds, it is not modular, it would lose all it's strength to be able to separate it easily. It does have two internal floors though which can be removed, which I will build onto so the building isn't empty. The middle floor is trapped in though, as the cross beam support for the floor above it (and for wall integrity) means I can't actually get it out. I have placed my extended GE on one side and modified Pet Shop on the other for comparison, I still haven't worked out where this will go in my City. I don't have my display tables at the moment, but once I get them back I will work something out. As always, comments and ideas for improvement are greatly appreciated Quote
eurotrash Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Excellent! I think you've done a fantastic job there. The proportions you've used just seem right and the sloping blue structure out front definitely adds to the overall looks and feel. As for an interior how about a TV Studio? Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 AWESOME structure 'Xyver'.....now it needs an interior and a lift through the middle or side of it. Brick On 'Xyver' ! Quote
Kristel Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Looks great! I like how you've integrated the garden beds around the structure. Quote
emilstorm Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Very good, that's a lot of windows:) I once had something similar in mind but ended up abandoning the idea because of the number of windows I would need to buy. Your moc is great, the design of the building, and as Kristel mentioned, the flower beds are cool. Quote
Xyver Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 How is it connected to the other modulars? It's not, I never use the technic connectors on any of my builds. I display my city a few times each year and it's easy to just move them around if they aren't connected. It is 96 windows (24 each level). I bought 50 white and 50 dark bley from pick-a-brick to use in a few builds, but used them all up on this instead I wanted to put some flower beds into this one, considering I had made the extra ground space. I thought of a few things then when I bought a lot of the modified curved pieces for something else I thought they'd look good. The bed with no flowers actually use the column as the attachment point. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Looks good but the blue part looks unfinished and simple. It needs more tiles, slants, and details. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Excellent build Xyver! It's not very often we see round structures. It looks like it would make a great small car dealership with the colors and large windows. Very well done Quote
Only Sinner Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Good idea for a building, and it would look great in any modern city. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Interesting idea. I don't think I've ever seen a round office building. But something about the roundness makes me think of the Daily Planet. Quote
3BrickFriends Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Great building design. I think the blue could do with breaking up with an accent blue colour (medium blue, azure, dark blue, etc), apart from that its awesome. I'm very interested to see how you arrange the interior. I've built a couple of curved buildings in the past and they are not easy to fit out. Quote
Jody Meyer Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 AWESOME, I think you did a wonderful job on this build, nice concept to finishing details with flowers, now for the office move in furniture Quote
Xyver Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 As has been mentioned here, and by members of my LUG, this will be a high-end car dealership. So now I will have somewhere to show off my vehicles. The upper levels will be offices and I will see about putting a lift shaft in the middle. Now to come up with a brand name/logo to attach to the blue awning area, which should help give the whole thing a little bit more detail. I will post update photos once it's done. Quote
igacreative Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I am very seriously loving the round building! Very adventurous! Quote
edgedmangahas Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Awesome! Love the shape. It adds a lot of character to any town layout. Quote
Man with a hat Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Great concept. The awning is also very fitting. The inside is a bit bare, but there is a lot of potential there as well. Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Talk about thinking outside the box... Great job! You will definitely need an interior with those big windows. A car dealership sounds great. Quote
kieran Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 I have seen car dealers that look just like this, Audi and BMW have a few like this in the uk Quote
weeble1688 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Being from the USA, the blue seems to suggest Ford Motor Company to me, but I don't know how many Fords you have running around Australia ... Ford isn't exactly high-end here, but might be for your country once the export/import/transportation fees, etc. are taken into account? Just a thought. Definitely a beautiful build though, no matter whose dealership it becomes! Quote
Xyver Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 I've started with the interior. I have a lift in the centre of the upper levels and desks in the top level - even a bigger one for President Business. The ground level will be for a vehicle showroom. I know blue denotes Ford, but I instinctively deslike the brand, so that is not going to happen. In Australia you're either a Ford person, or a Holden (General Motors) person, but since Holden is red, I can't use that. Neither of them are high end brands, they're for the working class, so it's just going to be a generic brand. Once the liftwell is in, there won't be a lot of room, maybe 4 cars tops around the outside. That will look ok though, just have to work out the best way to have them situated as you can't access the inside without pulling the building apart, and I need to be able to transport it all without everything moving. okiba75 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 A unique and well executed idea - great job! :) Quote
Venunder Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 That is a really great build. The connection of the round structure to the street looks just right. Very striking. Now the offices need some desks, computers and a few workers. Maybe a Lift through the center of the building too? Try looking at the round towers in the Historical Forum for some inspiration about improving the parapet on the roof. Or maybe a railing system might look better for this modern building? Quote
