ElCrab Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) So I just now found out there was an elephant. What other animals have I missed out on?! I have several sharks (plus the sawfish shark), an octopus, a bear, the minifig monkey and the accessory monkey, and a few alligators.. I've seen that a manta ray exists as well, as well as the aforementioned elephant. What other minifig-like, purpose built animals exist? Thanks in advance. EDIT - The list so far: Horses (what colors besides black, brown, white?) Cows (what colors exist?) Chickens Goats(?) Bear (polar and brown) Monkey (minifig and accessory) Sharks (sawfish, white, gray) Parrots Elephant Alligator Manta Ray Octopus Dogs (Dalmatian and German Shepherd) Cats Mice Spiders Starfish Crabs Fish Snakes Scorpions Bats Seagulls Crows Camels Owls Pigs Frogs Edited April 8, 2014 by ElCrab Quote
rollermonkey Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Multiple dogs and cats, plus a rat/mouse... Duplo has had dozens of animals across several zoo type sets, too. Quote
ElCrab Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) Forgot about the dogs, cats, spiders, mice, parrots, horses (so obvious). I'm going to edit my post and put in the list. There's a reason I want this info, as I'm planning my first MOC to be something that needs animals. I did not specify, but I meant actual animals of this planet. Dinosaurs count, and I don't know which had been made, other than pterodactyls, T-Rex, Triceratops), but, say, wargs and Chima minifigs don't. I'm looking for minifig-like animals, the ones that basically are purpose-built as figures, not of bricks. Edited April 8, 2014 by ElCrab Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 There are bats and crabs. Also starfish and fish. I also think there is a seagull and the black crow. There is also scorpions and snakes. Quote
williejm Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Ostrich, dolphin, ant and clam should be added ... And if you're including the crow, which is a hat accessory, then I guess there's a butterfly & beetle too Quote
williejm Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 (Not sure whether the LOTR giant eagle fits in your list) Quote
Aanchir Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 These Bricklink categories should help you: Animal, Air Animal, Dinosaur Animal, Land Animal, Water This year, there will be a few more that aren't yet on Bricklink. In LEGO City, there will be a Siberian Husky and a polar bear. In LEGO Friends, there will be two styles of bear cub, a lion cub, a baby orangutan, a chimpanzee, a panda cub, and a macaw. There might be more I haven't spotted. Quote

Also from Lego Friends there is the turtle and the tiger. Forgot about the dogs, cats, spiders, mice, parrots, horses (so obvious). I'm going to edit my post and put in the list. There's a reason I want this info, as I'm planning my first MOC to be something that needs animals. You should make a massive zoo! That is one MOC that is on my bucket list but probably won't be done for a while due to a lack of animals and money (I'm Building my Star Wars army!) Quote
jodawill Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 The cows have been made in black & white and reddish brown. The reddish brown ones are a little cheaper on Bricklink, but they're both ridiculously expensive, unfortunately. Quote
B Rick Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I know the Friends line have some that could be incorporated in minifig land, like hedgehogs, penguins, and deers... Maybe a turtle and rabbit? Quote
Tuinman Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Camels and ostriches from prince of persia. Edit: just see that camel is on the list. Edited April 9, 2014 by Tuinman Quote
AmperZand Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 The BrickLink categories suggested by Aanchir look pretty comprehensive. There's only one missing: humans. We're animals too! @Tuinman, ostriches were mentioned by williejm. Quote
Ritsz Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 The big Shark from 6243 and 8633. Maybe the Red Octopus.. Quote
Maniac4Legos Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 (edited) There have been no goats unless you count Fab upland characters (more human than animal though). Cows in black/white and brown. Used in city farm sets and castle sets (the market set specifically for castle) Did you get pigs? Did you get the cats? White, black, orange, grey. Orange and grey in two to three types. White and black are the small forms seen in Studios sets. T-Rex from Dino Island and Studios. Pteradons from Studios and Dino Island. Another version in Dinos. A third in Dino Attack. More in Dinos and Dino Attack. Red octopus from pirates Edited April 10, 2014 by Maniac4Legos Quote

jonwil Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Bricklink is definatly the best record of the animals that exist. Its also probably the best place to buy those animals you dont have but want for your project :) Quote

Dorayaki Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 (edited) I just now found out there was an elephant. What other animals have I missed out on? Not really. It depends on your own way of playing but generally the current Lego canon doesn't recognize the "outdated" molds. If you're saying the elephants from Adventurers, I guess it counts one of them. Many animals introduced before 2000 aren't used anymore. The current ways to get animals are : Friends animal packs, horses, CMF mini animals, City Forest/Arctic bears and dogs and some licensed animals. The discontinued recent themes you may still get are Dino and Lego City Farm. If imaginary animals count, there have been many different dragons in Castle and action themes. Speaking of Chima, crocodiles also have been in System for long time, they just appeared in TLM. Shells are sort of creatures if starfishes are? Tons of animals from Duplo deserve a System scale, especially the adult ones. Edited April 10, 2014 by Dorayaki Quote
Maniac4Legos Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Yes there have been goats. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=96089pb01 Right in DUPLO. I was only thinking of system (regular LEGO). In that case we can also include tigers, giraffes, and other types of dinosaurs, bears, crocodile and pandas. Shells are sort of creatures if starfishes are? First of all, I also remembered ostriches from Prince of Persia (1 set only). Also snakes from adventurers and scorpions. Second, shells could be considered animals since they are made for mollusks. You can consider shells for things such as oysters, clams and the like. Animals usually make shells (correct me if wrong). We need a biologist to determine that. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Oh, goodness. Yes, shells are definitely animal products, and should be counted as animals (clams). Not really. It depends on your own way of playing but generally the current Lego canon doesn't recognize the "outdated" molds. If you're saying the elephants from Adventurers, I guess it counts one of them. Many animals introduced before 2000 aren't used anymore. Certain groups of animals aren't used from even more recently; dinosaurs had overhauls in 2005, and again just a couple years ago. Actually, for whatever reason, most or all dinosaurs (and other prehistoric reptiles that technically aren't actually dinosaurs, but tend to be grouped with them, such as pterosaurs) get redesigned from the ground up almost every time LEGO does a dinosaur theme. There are: the ones from the 2000 Adventurers subtheme Dino Island, which used design elements and even actual parts from the classic crocodilian and the old-style dragon (from Fright Knights) the ones from the 2001 theme Dinosaurs, which used a few special parts (heads, feet, flippers, etc.) along with semi-generic elements used for the main bodies of large animals (the same pieces were also used for the aforementioned elephants, a whale in the Alpha Team line, and the original Star Wars dewback lizard), along with regular bricks; the LEGO Studios Jurassic Park subtheme also used some of the exact same designs, while at the same time also a using Dino Island-style Tyrannosaurus rex in the LEGO Studios Steven Spielberg MovieMaker Set, really a Jurassic Park set without the Jurassic Park name the ones from the 2005 theme(s) Dino Attack / Dino 2010 (the theme name depended upon the geographic region), which were differently stylized and a little more fantastic ("mutant" versions, some of them incorporating light-up elements in the eyes and such, powered by officially nonreplaceable batteries) the ones from the 2012 theme Dino And these are just the ones from minifigure-based themes (aside from the 2001 Dinosaurs theme, but since that used some of the exact same dinosaur designs found in the contemporaneous minifigure-based LEGO Studios Jurassic Park subtheme, I'm going to count it). There are also dedicated dinosaur figural elements from at least one DUPLO theme(s), not to mention any number of official dinosaur models built entirely from "regular" bricks. Quote
Aanchir Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Right in DUPLO. I was only thinking of system (regular LEGO). Except that is not Duplo. It is a System goat from this set. Quote
Maniac4Legos Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Except that is not Duplo. It is a System goat from this set. Oh! My apologies. I didn't look too closely to tell the difference. Thank you! Quote
Clone OPatra Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 And these are just the ones from minifigure-based themes Don't forget Rex from Toy Story! He's a dino too. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Quite so! Although, he's a specific character, and one who happens to be a toy dinosaur (so the LEGO version is a toy of a toy), rather than an actual one. But yeah, there he is. Quote
