hans-thegreat Posted May 18, 2007 Author Posted May 18, 2007 This brand feels the same. I know its hard to believe, but its true! and I don't know about the color quality, because basically there are only black and grey colors. oddly, the mini figs have noses! go figure! My one disappointment was the custom molded cannons. They're not very historically accurate. Quote
oo7 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Not the best picture, but it works. It seems I prefer the minifigures in the set displayed at the beginning of the thread. The guy has no headgear? And that ax seems to have the exact proportions of the viking one, except it's one piece. Strange. And also......why was this thread locked then opened then locked then opened again? :S Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 18, 2007 Governor Posted May 18, 2007 Well I would swear on my life that this is fully compatible with lego. If it wasn't for the cobi instead of lego on the plastic, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. They even feel the same...I'm very impressed. If I was prone to dabbling in such things, which I'm not, I'd take a close look at the railings, the crows nest, and possible the tan riggings Since Mr Great reckons COBI is of a comparable quality perhaps it might be worthwhile sourcing a set cheaply and seeing how well the pieces you mentioned work with LEGO. Tanotrooper Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 do the fake imperial torsos fit with lego bodies? Gaetano Quote
jamtf Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Quality is comparable... Cobi is from Poland, Lego is nowadays mainly produced in countries such as Czech Republic. That is why Lego is having problems, things do not seem to work and especially the delivery of the 2006 Star Wars sets such as 6209 and 6210 is on back order since things were not running as it should and they needed concentrating on the new line of sets that were announced to be available in June (Castle and City) and August (new Star Wars) of this year. This is also the reason why people are complaining about colour differences in new Lego pieces (i.e. the reddish brown bricks in Cafe Corner). Lego's machinery in Eastern Europe is not running properly. I heard this from a retailer who complained about Lego not being able to deliver the quantities he needs. Quote
Landlubber Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Good, you figured out how to focus the camera. :-P As for the set, the quality of the bricks looks pretty good now that the photo is a bit clearer. Everything looks pretty solid, with nice sharp corners like lego has, and good solid colours. I do see a bit of copying there. Two guys up on the rigging have a torso similar to the tusken raiders and there is a torso down near the middle mast that looks a lot like the armour plate from the castle range. EDIT- Just realised they probably are lego that you have added. Not bad though, and I reckon those railings would come in handy, not to mention cannons in bulk. Quote
hans-thegreat Posted May 21, 2007 Author Posted May 21, 2007 Ha! That's funny. You're right, all the mini figs are lego. I don't think they could copy that much! :-D And yes, now I can focus the camera. Yay! *sweet* Quote
Dreamweb Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 I'm from Poland. COBI is a Polish brand and it's very popular in here. I have one COBI set, bought it a few years ago, mainly out of curiosity. The quality of plastic is really good, better than most clone brands I've seen. The bricks are really compatible with Lego, but some of the colours are quite different (especially grey and tan of those which I have). Minifigs have identical shape (I think COBI introduced fleshtones before Lego, but it's a different shade as well), but you can't rotate their hands or remove them from their arms - they are simply glued, well, the ones that I have at least... hans-thegreat Posted May 22, 2007 Author Posted May 22, 2007 ARG!!!!!!! I can't seem to make bigger and taller hulls with this cobi brand! *&$%#$^!!!! Well, I haven't really tried yet. Maybe I'll succeed later... >:-( Quote
hans-thegreat Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 I don't think it's possible. There's where Lego is way better. Quote
