ZootyCutie Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I always recommend the animated movie "9". It's a PG-13 animated movie, which you hardly see, and it proves that an adult animated movie does NOT have to be like Family Guy or The Simpsons. The animation is amazing, the voice actor choices are great, and it's great for anyone that's a huge fan of the steampunk genre or is a Tim Burton fan. Quote
bitbang Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 (edited) Frances Ha! Easily viewable if you have Netflix, and my second favorite film of the year. Other 2013 standouts now available on DVD are Nebraska and Inside Llewyn Davis, all of which deserve your time. But if we're not concerned with how recent, here's a short but fairly diverse list to get you going (in order of release): Dr. Strangelove Catch-22 A Clockwork Orange Taxi Driver The Shining Silence of the Lambs Pulp Fiction Pi Zodiac Dragon Tattoo Trilogy-Extended (Swedish) I forgot about Catch 22. Really enjoyed that one. Also, I never saw any Dragon Tattoo movies. I plan on watching them real soon! I always recommend the animated movie "9". I remember seeing that movie and thinking "This will be a classic" just like the Nightmare Before Christmas. I also enjoyed James & the Giant Peach though I know this is completely unrelated. lol Edited December 28, 2014 by bitbang Quote

incomplet Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 The recommended movies in my list are: The Prestige The Fantastic Mr Fox. The Blind Side Catch me if you can Quote
BrickBelt Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 The Prestige for sure! A Beautiful Mind is another good one. I'm particularly fond of District 9. Pan's Labyrinth is also very good. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, of course (The World's End was good, but not as good.) Anyone here seen the Fall? It was certainly very interesting and pretty different from the usual fare...If you haven't seen it I HIGHLY recommend watching it without knowing much about it beforehand. It's a bit similar to Secondhand Lions but it has some stunning art direction to it. Quote

Kalhiki Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Oh i hated that movie, so cruel and dark. Not a fun movie to watch in my opinion lol. Pretty sure "cruel and dark" was the point of that movie. But opinions are opinions. You're entitled to your own. Personally, I loved 9. Such a unique movie. And the original short film was fantastic, too. And while I'm here, gotta recommend Princess Mononoke. Easily one of my favorite movies, and definitely my favorite Studio Ghibli movie. Quote

Murdoch17 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) Please note, I'm a railroad nut and this list kinda shows. - The Train (WW 2 era film made in 1964 staring Burt Lancaster) Spectacular train (and train wreck) sequences - they even blew up a whole yard to make this film! - The Polar Express (lovable book, exciting and wonderful movie - I relate to the one know-it-all-boy on the train) - Emperor of the North Pole (also titled without the "pole" when it came out on DVD) - set around 1930's Great Depression, Lee Marvin, Keith Carradine & Ernest Borgnine respectively star as older Hobo "A Number 1", young hobo "Cigarette", and "Shack" the murderous train conductor - no hobo rides his train and lives. - Yellow Submarine (The Beatles animated movie) If you love their later (1965 to 1968) music: watch this interesting film. montgocloud Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I finally got around to watching Nightcrawler - what a performance! The movie was really engaging and tense. The only real problem it had was the scores which was a little too on the nose. It didn't fit in with the atmosphere. I also watched Beginners. It's great to see Ewan McGregor in a role where he gets to stretch his acting chops. Aaaaaand The Skeleton Twins. This movie just hit me at the right time. Wow. The ending was a little rushed, but everything else was brilliant. I'll definitely watch this again. And I bought Love and Mercy on Blu Ray! Apart from some inaccuracies dealing with Good Vibrations and SMiLE, this is a fantastic film. Dano and Cusack are truly inspired choices to play tortured genius Brian Wilson. I highly recommend all four of these films. Quote
