Vader Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 As theres been a long break in between new sets i decided to try my hand at a few more custom, this time however i have focused more on hairpieces. Heres Quilon Vos, vos has been a leading character in recent SW Comics. Vos's hair is long and kinda dreaded, i used a normal anakin hairpiece to sculpt the long hairs bits onto. A simple side view. Dass Jennir, yet anouther comic jedi, like vos he too has long hair. Again ive used the same method to sculpt the hair. Heres K'kuhk, hes a whiphid jedi that appeared in the comics and clone wars cartoon. This is a full head sculpt and is still rough, hopefully i will be able to smooth him out abit. Ive used this sculpt as a way to practice for my army of custom wookies i hope to make, oh and i based the design of kkruhk on that of the comic version. We need more bounty hunters right? Anyway heres Aurrua Sing, her ponytail was quite simple to make. Another side view, oh i should point out that the torso decal design is not mine. I found it on BS along time ago and hope that i dont upset anyone with its use. A custom jedi based on one that was also in the clone wars cartoon. Another jedi from the comics, Choi has a sculpted head and custom legs. And finally a commander gree, no sculpting here just a simple paint job. Comments are welcome. :-) Quote
ApophisV Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Here is my theory: You got yourself some of those 30cm display figs and customize THESE! Really, nobody can create so many details in such a small scale like the Minifig-scale!! X-O Especially the black hair of the first guy, that's SO astonishing!!! *y* Quote
Asuka Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Excellent work, especially with Quilon Vos, K'kuhk and Choi, very interesting. *y* Quote
Wout Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Very nice *vader* *y* I like Quinlan Vos, maybe TLC make a fig for the 2008/2009? live action serie. Or a e.u. battle pack with Aayla Secura, Master Thon? (his teacher) and the tree jedi woman (just lost their names) You knew Aurra Sing was once a padawan? (to the Dark Lady) You now could also make a little Aurra :-D K'krukh and the other guy with long head looks nice too Quote
Starwars4J Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Hey, these are fantastic! I am a little confused about a few things though. You mentioned having used anikan's hairpiece as a base, and yet it looks like they're molded directly onto the head. I've been dabbling in headpieces as well recently, so I'd love to know how you did it Quote
Vader Posted May 5, 2007 Author Posted May 5, 2007 Thanks for the kind words guys, Wout i do indeed know the back story of Aurra. Perhaps i will make both a lil aurra and a dark lady at some point, but for know theres a fe other figs i wish to do first. SW4J like i said before the hair is indeed attached to an anakin hairpiece, the reason why you cant see the old hairpiece is because i firstly cut the front of it back. :-) By doing this it allows for new hair to be sculpted at the front of the head, on the Vos hairpiece i also cut the sides of the hairpiece back alittle also. Ill get some pics up soon of the new hairpiece on its own without the head, oh and i used green stuff for all of the customs. Quote
Starwars4J Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 *slaps his forehead* Why didn't I think of that? Thankfully it's never too late to cut the hair piece, so I can make what I did look more natural like yours. Thanks for the tip! K'kuhk is still the most amazing in terms of sheer detail, and as for the Jedi with the long head, is that just two heads stalked on top of each other and covered, or did you cut off the top of another head and filled the middle in with putty? And you used Green stuff for this?! I could imagine this level of detail on a sculpy work easy, but green stuff is so hard to work with! This makes it much more impressive Quote
Vader Posted May 6, 2007 Author Posted May 6, 2007 For the jedi with the long head i used a regular head, then i cut the top of another off and placed it on top of the first. I used some putty to seal the gap between the 2 heads then smoothed it, then of course i placed the decal on top of it. Green stuff is harder to use but is far more durable, if i had used putty etc then the long bits of hair would more than likely break upon removing the hairpiece. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 6, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 6, 2007 I never did any sculpting, but seeing your works makes me wanna try myself. These customs are really top quality! Quote
JoeMI6 Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Great figs, especially some brilliant work on the hair. I'm not sure whether I remember this correctly, but doesn't the clone wars jedi have black hair coming out of the turban like thing? Quote
