skylinedan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Not sure what happened, but it seems LEGO has gone back to the old style worm gears and the new version is no longer on their site for sale. The Construction crew had this new gear in it, and now it shows the older one instead also. Wonder what happened with it, I was lucky enough to buy 12 of them off their site before they pulled them. Anyone else run into this / Quote
Meatman Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Probably just an error. Lego has a lot of odd things in their parts inventory on their site. Quote
skylinedan Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 Strange thing is if you run both the element pt no. and the LEGO no. it comes up as a bad number, also like i said. If you look at all the pieces for the Construction crew set they replaced the new style gear with the old one, When I ordered the 12 I got they had the newer one on the list. I know some one did a review of the set a while back and pointed out the new worm gear, and how it was a big improvement over the old version. Quote
D3K Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 well, the one in the construction crew loader could easily be changed for an old one.. But I suppose there must be a reason for Lego to design a new part! I have already run into a situation in a MOC where the new type is a must! It's not necessarily an improvement, but it has other uses.. sort of like an ordinary 8 tooth gear and the new red ones. Also, it wont "drill" into liftarms, or get locked when used with pieces where the holes are not symmetrical for the entire circumference Quote
skylinedan Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 They work great for a 16 to 1 gear reduction box, I used 4 of the 1/4 elipse pieces and a 16 tooth gear. The new ones dont hit the elipse on either side liek the old ones do. plus there 3l in length which what you need unlike the 2L that the old version is. Just a much nicer gear for the job. Quote

Zerobricks Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 (edited) Maybe there was a problem with the mold? Edited October 1, 2015 by Zblj Quote
