BearHeart Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 One thing I'd like to see more from LEGO is more fantasy and adventure based themes. Harry Potter seems to be on its last legs, there are no new Viking sets on the horizon, Avatar Airbender seemed to be a one hit wonder and its been four years since we've had an Adventurers line. The only theme right now is the upcoming Castle line. There is a lot of science fiction based themes (SW, Mars Mission, Aquaraiders, Alpha Team, Dino Attack) but very little history/fantasy themes. I'd be really glad if I saw at least one more fantasy theme in the near future, either a license(see my Chronicles of Narnia post in the theatre forum) or an original theme. What do you think? Quote
xwingyoda Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 That Castle theme is clearly moving towards fantassy with skellies and upcoming orcs (yeay !!) which is great !! However we are clearly in need of the rebirth of a classic adventurer line !! New JT or another hero, I don't care !! I want some more ruins, temples, treasures, and sweet vehicles !! Seeing how TLC seems to evolve, we might be lucky in the future ;-) I don't need more licences because they screw your imagination and rise the prices of sets hehe !! *yoda* Quote
Wout Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Well I would like fantasy themed sets, but there were some questions a couple of years ago what we would like. Many people asked for fantasy. And maybe TLC was seeing Knights Kingdom 2 as a fantasy line. :-( Quote
Starwars4J Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I would enjoy that, as I loved the Dragon Knights, but I do like a certain level of realism. I'd just be appreciative of any well-done series though :-) Quote
xenologer Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Wasn't StarWars already fantasy enough? :-| Quote
BearHeart Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 Wasn't StarWars already fantasy enough? :-| Star Wars is science fiction |-/ I'm talking about knights, monsters, wizards, castles, ruins, etc. (no spaceships or lasers) Quote
xenologer Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I'm talking about knights, monsters, wizards, castles, ruins, etc. knight: jedi monsters: pick any alien, jarjar, jabbaDhutt, the sarloc thing wizards: Yoda, palapatine, jedi in general castles: yeah plenty of em ruins: yep, lots of those too SW is fantasy. Uhh, just have everyone yell 'I cast magic missile!' before firing a laser blaster. :-D Quote
Starwars4J Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 He actually has somewhat of a point, Star Wars is science fiction/science fantasy. It's the whole basis Lucas used when making Star Wars (besides Luke Starkiller being a space potato farmer...) But anyway guys, let's remember not to get off topic ;-) Quote
BearHeart Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 knight: jedimonsters: pick any alien, jarjar, jabbaDhutt, the sarloc thing wizards: Yoda, palapatine, jedi in general castles: yeah plenty of em ruins: yep, lots of those too SW is fantasy. Uhh, just have everyone yell 'I cast magic missile!' before firing a laser blaster. :-D Im talking about PURE Fantasy: No lasers, no aliens, no space ships, no robots, no guns, no hi-tech gadgets, no space travel, no computers, no bionic body parts, no city-planets, no tanks, no giant space stations, no shield generators, no electricity, no steam power, no inter-planetary governments and no hovering vehicles. THATS the kind of fantasy theme Im talking about, hope that clears everything up for you and future posters :-) *y* Quote
simonwillems Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I would really like to see some more adventurers-sets in the style of the 1998/1999 sets (the sets in the Egyptian desert and South American jungle). Maybe an ancient-Rome/Ancient Greek theme with lots of ruins and things. click Quote
Hinckley Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I would really like to see some more adventurers-sets in the style of the 1998/1999 sets (the sets in the Egyptian desert and South American jungle).Maybe an ancient-Rome/Ancient Greek theme with lots of ruins and things. click A lot of people have said something similar. I agree, I think it's time LEGO came out with a great Greco-Roman theme like the Vikings line! Oh, how I wish they'd make more Vikings... Quote
blueandwhite Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I don't see the need for multiple fantasy lines. I do think there is a place for fantasy in LEGO, however one line is more than enough. I could see fantastical elements in other, unrelated lines ala. the Adventures series, however the idea of carrying multiple fantasy products with a medieval flare seems a bit redundant. Consider that many fans don't even have a single line taylored to their interests. Fans of Adventures, Pirates, Western etc. have no current lines to collect. Fans of fantasy have had Harry Potter, Vikings, KKII, Avatar, and the new Castle line in recent years. There are more than enough dragons and wizards already. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Adventurers, Castle, Wild West, and Pirates are among my favorite all-time Lego themes. All of these themes can be history or fantasy. In my opinion, the fantasy aspects make them more playable and more interesting (esp Castle). The new Lego Castle theme is a great one for it really combines aspects of both classic castle with fantasy. I love swords and sorcery and unlike Fright Knights, the theme is much better designed. Quote
Athos Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I personally would just like a historical theme. Almost any era and any locale would make me happy. Steve Quote
Brick Miner Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Adventurers, Castle, Wild West, and Pirates are among my favorite all-time Lego themes. All of these themes can be history or fantasy. In my opinion, the fantasy aspects make them more playable and more interesting.my view is closer to this... i think fantasy and adventure mixed into themes other than fantasy/adventure is what im looking for.i don't really care for "fantasy" (like HP, Narnia, LOTR, etc...). but i don't like miniature building either... i mean the CC is great, but it's mearly a miniature of real architechture... there is no playability or "fun" in it, only awe (which isn't bad, i just prefer a little fun, aka fantasy). - BrickMiner Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 BM- where have you been? Haven't read much from you lately. Quote
Brick Miner Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 BM- where have you been? Haven't read much from you lately.while, im still browsing the forums daily, im keeping my posting to a minimum, cause i got some work deadlines to meet by the end of the month... id love to find some time to write about your WW haunted house MOC though ;-) - BrickMiner Quote
xwingyoda Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 OK guys, please lets stop that whole off topicness in here !! SW is NOT fantasy end of story OK !! *yoda* Quote
ghoulrealm Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 SW is NOT fantasy end of story OK !! Hmm... Is it fictional? :-) _________________ The more fantasy, the better IMO. Wether it's futuristic or alien technology or magick and monsters, I'm all for it. The Harry Potter licence gives us some excelent fantasy elements even if you're not particularly found of the theme itself. And yes it may be redundant at times, but that's fine with me. Let's look at dragons for instance, There are a lot of dragons but there are many different types and ways of building them. Oh no! I just realized, I don't have any official dragon :'-( Well, I do have the Viking wyvern. Quote
xwingyoda Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Hmm... Is it fictional? :-) _________________ Not at all, its based on Anakin Skywalker's biography :-D Like I said before, the new Castle is really oriented fantasy with skellies and orcs !! Thats a great sign indeed !! If that line is successfull (and I hope it will) we can expect more fantasy monsters and creatures yeay !! I really think that TLC will add to their catalog a new Adventurer theme in the near future !! I don't think that Aqua Raiders will have a wave 2 (or at least a big one, maybe 2 moire sets and basta) so it leaves room fornovelty !! Adventurer was always a great theme and such theme is really needed IMO !! Back to the classics I say !! *yoda* Quote
WhiteHexagon Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Lord Of The Rings? would be great for castle collectors. Creator dragon could be included. Not sure about having so many races of minifigures. But some wizards would be nice. Quote
BearHeart Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 Xwingyoda, what are those orcs you keep mentioning? Are they confirmed or just speculation? Just wondering. Quote
Asuka Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 The Lord of the Rings would be great, but I guess the buildings are just too huge for LEGO sets.... Call me weird but I would like to see a Peter Pan line.... System, not 4+.... A Victorian style house, a Neverland Lost Boys Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 SW is NOT fantasy end of story OK !! *yoda* Actually, SW can be considered fantasy. SW might be better classified as Science Fiction, but based on the literary definition of the word Fantasy, SW does have elements of the supernatural and/or magic. I would point out the power of the "force" that constitutes these elements. A book, movie, film, etc. does not have to have wizards, dragons, and sorcery to be considered fantasy. Science Fiction can contain fantasy elements. SW is a good example. I've also heard science fiction called "modern fantasy". This is debatable depending on ones point of view. Quote
alex54 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 This new Castle theme, the more I see it, the more I like it! We can feel the fantasy aspect and it makes me very interseted in it... I'm a city man, I will resiste, I will resiste... I ... will... Just hope your right Yoda, cause I will be very happy to see some new adventurers sets. I just have one of the old sets, but I really like all of them. (Why on heart did I not buy that scorpion palace?) Quote
