After concentrating for a while on building up the forces, I decided to get back into what LEGO is really about: building structures and vehicles and such.... so over the past day I have made a small dent.... I reused a gate prototype that I've built (it has a draw bridge and a portcullis) and I built it up on a small "mountain". I'm not entirely happy how the right side looks (I think I ended up the mountain too "flat") and I'll be readjusting it a bit, but for now I want to concentrate on finishing the last "quarter".

Oh yeah, I know... I could build dungeons or something BUT for the moment, building this is about the limit of my imagination :) I tried dungeons before and they frustrated the hell out of me...

Well this is certainly off to a good start in my opinion. It's good that you are mixing the types of gray blocks with sand-green blocks to avoid big, gray wall syndrome. I think the right side looks good at the moment.

If you need some ideas for castle stuff I'd look at:

http://classic-castle.com/howto/articles.html

Specifically the section for buildings. I know I've gone back and read those articles many times when brainstorming for ideas.

Keep up the good work though :classic:

Great job so far, I cant wait to see the final outcome. The rock work looks good so far and Im really liking that draw bridge and portcullis. :classic:

Got all four quarts in and I started working on the stables (straight up from the gate) and put down the layout for the manor house. I also included a close up of the gate working mechanism.

I'm planning to put the armory above the stables and considering putting soldier quarters above that... or using the empty corner for that... though there I'm considering putting a small smithy maybe and a kitchen??? choices.. choices... choices...

One last thing I'm considering is putting in a secret passageway out: it'd be from underneath the manor house and out the bedrock on the side (something on a swivel? Or maybe a concealed by a water fall???? :D

Secret passage is the way to go. Put it in!

I started working on the Manor House (or the Lords Quarters). I have two levels done with a stairwell from ground level to the second level. Got some of the windows in. As I'm trying to decide how tall to make that section I will work on the gatehouse.

Good progress so far. I will keep my eye on here.

I've been considering building my own castle too. I have a gatehouse started, and I want to elaborate on it, but I need pieces and I need to decide what I want to put in there. Do I want to enclose everything or leave it open backed...decisions, decisions.

But I will look upon yours for inspiration. Keep it up!

Something to keep in the back of your head - how will you do stairs/ladders to upper levels in the gatehouse? I made the mistake of making just the front of the gatehouse when I started and now that I'm putting in access to higher levels I'm kicking myself for not making each side 2 studs wider......

Still far from completion but I'm getting closer. In these pics you'll notice a lot of unfinished work (attic area above the stable does not have the tower walls and you can see into the attic)

Done a bit more work on the castle. Got two roofs nearly completed (one roof is missing a few tiles on the very top - just plumb run out...) and also still missing the rest of the lords tower. I'm deciding between 1 or 2 more levels that will either be topped off with a tall spiky roof or flat roof or...

After that's done, then the courtyard needs work and the armory towers need finishing off. Courtyard will probably get a kitchen and a small smithy THOUGH I'm considering converting what I have as stable (lower level - straight up from the entry gate) into a kitchen and soldiers quarters.....

Oh yeah, I wish that I had more of red roof tiles....

You should do the roof in same color though ... but nice MOCs...

My original plan was that the manor house would be in one color and other structures would have a different color but I ran out of bricks....

A BrickOwl order came in while we were in the hospital (baby Girl :) ) and now I can work on the castle only from time to time (keeping my wife company as she's feeding from 2330 till now .... and it's 2AM)

Anyways, this is the updated roof (red on the manor to match the tower roof )

Congratulations! I hope all is well. My baby girl is 3 weeks old now, all my spare time goes to her at the moment. There's only little time for Lego...But so much other joy
