jamesster Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) Oh wow, this is great! Can't wait to see the final layout, it's already looking really nice. Sheriff got the Wanted Sign Guy (don't know the name) It depends on what region you're in, but he was named Flatfoot Thompson/Thomsen in the US and Prairie Pete in the UK, possibly some other names elsewhere. The actual printed wanted poster piece refers to him as Flatfoot Thomsen, and as far as I know that wasn't altered between different countries: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=3069bpx37 Edited December 18, 2013 by jamesster Quote
Ritsz Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 Indeed, totally true! 100 cavalry vs 50 indians, great armies. I wish I had some western sets, I only got this small set: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6791-1 Well it's never too late to start buying some western sets, you just have to be patient and look for the bargains. For example I got set 6718 for 4 euro and set 6746 for 5,50 euro... Quote
Alfadas Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 That is indeed not that much, I will see if I can find some nice deals. Quote

I live in Belgium and some of the year in Spain, but I prefer the US names more. I like Flatfoot Thomsen the most, also because its whats printed on the poster. Quote
Zeussoid Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I like a medieval castle, or a LOTR/Hobbit film, as much as the next guy, but it's cool to see a thread where a different historic theme gets some love. Quote

Hi Zeussoid, I love Castle almost as much as Western. (Wolfpack, Dragon Knights, Royal Knights, Fright Knights,... mostly from the 90's) Just a while ago I got a bit tired of collecting Western and was considering to begin with castle. I think it had to do with me admiring everybody's nice collections and after a few days I wanted to start with it too. But thinking about it a lot, I decided to first finish the Western layout I have on my mind. It'll take a 1-2 years I think. I just began collecting lego again past summer and I'm still ''young'' (25) so I got plenty of time left to collect all those theme's I like. Quote
Ritsz Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 Today I got the idea of making a cave in the ''Gran Canyon'' section. The inside of the cave will be visible from the side when finished. I think I'll make a treasure room in it with some sort of a booby trap, So the bandits can play Indiana Jones a bit. I just finished the entrance. Quote
Alfadas Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Looks nice! That skeleton could perhaps be in the entrance, as an earlier victim of the boobytraps? Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Nice color scheme :) I am looking forward to your progress on that built :) Quote
jamesster Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 This just keeps getting better and better. Looking forward to the rest of the cave. Quote
jodawill Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Thanks for the advice! I was planning on doing that later on. First thing I want to do is to have everything placed on the right spot. After that I'll start working on the details. For sculpting the landscape I'll need a lot of plates wich I dont have right now. I'll definitely do that later on when I got the money for it. Hello, I have 4 x Bandits secret hideout, and then I had to search really hard for those baseplates. 3 of 4 I bought separately and the rest I think 10 of them in one go. I contacted a guy who could get them for 7,50 euro, but he also had a hard time finding them. I dont mind helping you to find them if you want... How many do you need? Two or four more of them would be great, but I wonder if the shipping would be outrageous since I live in the USA. Last night, I tore apart my entire western town. We had some new windows installed and the guy who put them in got filth all over my display. So I used it as an opportunity to build something better. This time, I started with the fort. I'll post photos at some point. Here're a few photos of the work I did last night (except the train, of course): http://imgur.com/a/akN6n Do you have any suggestions for my fort? BTW, your layout is looking great. I'm really impressed by how many minifigures and baseplates you have. That's awesome. Quote
Ritsz Posted December 28, 2013 Author Posted December 28, 2013 I'll look around for those road baseplates, but like you said I think the shipping costs will be quite a bit to ship from europe to the USA. So maybe its better to pay a litle more and buy in the USA. That fort is looking really great. Better than mine! Offcourse for me its all about keeping evertything as original as possible. (but I'll definitely try to build a nice fort later on) I thing that if you keep building that fort in that same style it'll look great when finished! I'ts nice to see someone doing the same thing as me, building a Western layout. You can send me as much pictures as you like, I would love to follow your progress. If you want you can send me your E-mail adres by private message and then I'll E-mail you mine. The minifigues I pay an average of 2,30 euro for the Cavalry's and 2,40 euro for the Indians. If you want to know more I don't mind helping you with it. Right know I've just placed a few orders containing 28 more indians, fully with weapons and a few indian horses. And a extra Weapons Wagon 6716, and 2 more cavalry figures. Quote
Ritsz Posted December 28, 2013 Author Posted December 28, 2013 @Jodawill Wanted to send you a pm but didn't work, so here's what I wanted to send. Hi Jodawill, I just took a look at bricklink and there's one for sale really cheap 3,75 euro. The store is in the Netherlands and the shipping costs are 3,15 euro (because the plate is just under 100 grams) so totaal 6,90 euro. (Don't know how much USD) This is the store http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Steendorp Look at Parts and then click Baseplates, Road Kind Regards Ritsz (Miguel) Quote

I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to buy some more right now. I actually don't have space to add onto my display right now. =( I'm moving in May though, so I'm hoping to have enough room to expand there. I realized this morning that I would have to build two more of those guard towers for my fort or it would look silly. I can't afford to buy more of those windows (those are pretty rare colors), so I took out the window sills and put cannons in the towers to make it look cool still. I built the third and fourth towers, but I had to put in a Bricklink order for some pieces for the roofs. I ordered a couple hundred of those dark red slopes. I'm really excited about those! I also increased the dimensions of the fort quite a bit. I have a lot more of those log wall pieces than I expected. I built a fairly large two-story headquarters building for the back of my fort. If I use the red slopes for the roof, the roof would be ridiculously high, so I'm thinking about just leaving it as a flat roof. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'll be back with some photos of my fort after I get my Bricklink order. (Or maybe I'll start my own thread so I don't hijack yours.) Keep us updated on your layout! Ritsz Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Yes maybe its best to start your own topic, I don't mind myself, but I don't think its useful for other members to have to read all of this. I'm very curious about your fort and the rest of your town, would love to follow your progress in its own topic. Quote
Ritsz Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Hello everybody, I want to show my whole Cavalry army with you, I'm pretty proud of it because these figures are hard to come by these days. Right now I got 101 figures but it'll get bigger. I'll also make a few pictures of all my Indians next week. Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I like your army. I have built a similar sized one using the newer LR troops. It is good to line them all up isn't it, they look impressive like the whole regiment on the march at once. One thing I have done as I found it hard to get the older western sets cavalry troopers is to use the half a dozen or so of the old ones I did manage to get as officers leading my main army sections. It is a good way of distinguishing them from the everyday troopers but still leaving them as part of the overall theme. It is also good to see that you have the limber for your cannons, but maybe you need a few more horses there to pull them? Very good though overall, I like the wagons very much, something I have not been able to buy, all my wagons are open which is a shame really, your are much better. Quote

Since they lose their shape so easily, I wonder if it would be possible to reinforce them with the pneumatic tubes. I think I'm going to try that tonight. I hope my tubes are an appropriate size for that. I like your army. I have built a similar sized one using the newer LR troops. I have a lot of the Lone Ranger soldiers too. I'm thinking about using them as a second army of some kind, maybe soldiers from a different camp or something. I wish TLG would have used bright blue for those so they'd be consistent, but the new ones do look nice in their own right. Quote
fire117 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I remember having a few of the western sets as a kid, the amount of them you have and what you've made so far using all of it. I'm impressed. Quote
Brother Steven Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Awesome stuff! This layout is turning out great! Quote
Infernum Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 How did I miss this?! Awesome layout! I'm hoping for more updates! Quote
krono111 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 This is awesome! Waiting for more updates. I would also suggest that more landscaping would make the MOC 1000 times better but you already said you're going to do this, so I don't mind. Quote
Ritsz Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Hello guys, Thanks for the replays. I am in the middle of a move (moving back in with my parents for a year). So I'm affraid I won't be posting a lot for a while. Everything is packed in boxes right now, but if I find the time and they let me use some space I will definitely continue the Moc. Latest thing I did was buy more pieces and dubble my Indians army, from those I do have some pics. I'll try to post those this weekend if you like. Quote
