At least 8043 is quite Hard to get for a decent price; here you need not little luck but a lot of...

And 8258 with box and BI in good condition is quite expensive too..,

But of course you are right, both are great sets and all time classics and worth the money

Hi, i am new here but been building Lego all my life.

I am after some buying advice please, i can't decide between these sets:

1. 42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader

2. 8258 - Crane Truck

3. 8285 - Tow Truck

Im looking for good all round functions and not too fussed about MOCs and parts. Just looking for a good build with lots of motors and/or pneumatics, something nice and big and does lots.

I already have sets like the Crane MKII 42009 and Unimog 8110 and budget is £170.

Would like something brand new and boxed though, which i know some of the sets might be hard to find. Any advice is much appreciated.

Many thanks

Since Jim deleted could not be bothered with my reply in the merge of topics ( he's obviously still trying to learn the ropes  ) then I would repeat myself and say that I would go for the wheel loader.

The unanimous answer I expected was 2. 8258.

It's one of the best sets ever and it's getting more difficult every day to obtain one MISB (out of production for a while).

The Volvo will be around for a while, so you can buy that set later.

Just wondering why you rate 8258 so high, maybe because you like European trucks, but I dont see a lot of great features from it, except maybe the B model which I still havent got around to building (other than my 4wd pickup mod)

I have to agree with Jim, the obvious choice is 8258. It looks awesome, it is a great parts pack, it has nice functions (yea, i know, the crane is weak but for esthetic purposes it works very well), 8 wheels, lots of read panels, etc. I am a big fan of 8285 too, but buy this only if you love the design, because it lacks of Technic functions.

PS: get 8043, imho it is the father of all Technic sets ! (from 2000 - till now)

This is exactly why I like the 8258 so much. Altough I do agree that the crane could be better.

And I agree with the comment about the 8043. This set should be on the top of your list.

I think I want to get back into Technic collecting...

Which sets are closest to going out of print? I'm not in a rush, so I'd like to grab one of the big sets now so I can start collecting parts and pieces. Thanks!

The best option for you is to find a 8110, they are still in stores but not for a long time so i would hurry !

I'll call my local store and see if they have one. If not, any other suggestions?

there is a term in a free market economy: supply and demand ;-)

Anyway: if you search in BL for 8110 and just filter to sellers located in USA than you get some offerings of new and sealed sets for about 180 - 200$ - which is IMHO a very fair price.. what is wrong with these offerings??

Greetings everyone.

I was hoping for some input on list. I'm quite new to Technic (if you discount some models i built as a kid in the 80's). With 2 kids (2 & 5) i've been exposed to Lego again. I was a avid builder some 25 years ago and helping the kids with their sets, has really rekindled my lost love for all things Lego.

So, I want to purchase some Technic models for my own enjoyment (but also to let the kids play with a bit)

I'm thinking of ordering the following sets and build them as time permits this autumn.

1. 8043

2. 8110

3. 42009

4. 42030

Is there something i should add or change to this list? Any other thoughts?

These are for sure very good choices (apart from the 42030 but this can be my own personal and subjective opinion - there are a lot people out there who love this set)

I would add 8258 and especially the 8455 - latter one is IMHO one of the best models ever...

And if you are interested in building some old legends from the studded area, then i would recommend the 8868, 8880 and 8479... especially the first one is a MUST have and there are not few people who rate this set as best model release ever...

Personally i would start with 8110 and 42009 because a) both are great sets and b) then you have quite all stuff to build own models/creations if you like...

These ARE fair offers, however, I don't see them when I run a filter. Care to share them???

ah, my fault - i have overseen that the prices in the filtered list are listed in € because this is my preference (as German)... well, the cheapest is 240$ (rsp. 186€) - but still not really overprized for new and sealed... typical price at amazon.de was always between 159€ and 179€... or something similar... i can't imagine that the Unimog was way cheaper in US in the past... but i admit i do not know the US prices of lego...
