UrbanErwin Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) So, I said I would make one, so here it is: Overview: Lego Train Turntable: Main by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr Some details Lego Train Turntable: Details by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr Lego Train Turntable: Details by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr The control box: containing all the PF stuff Lego Train Turntable: Details by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr Lego Train Turntable: Details by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr Lego Train Turntable: Details by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr Powering is done by a Monorail motor. This will of course be placed in my new layout. I hope you liked it Edited November 5, 2013 by UrbanErwin Quote
JopieK Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Excellent idea!!! now you need reed sensors and an Arduino to control the system :) Quote
dr_spock Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Cool. Nice use of monorails. Any shots of it working? Do you use a PF train controller for control it? Quote
UrbanErwin Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) Excellent idea!!! now you need reed sensors and an Arduino to control the system :) No, a bit to complicated for me, a train remote will do too Cool. Nice use of monorails. Any shots of it working? Do you use a PF train controller for control it? Tomorrow I'll upload a small video, Yes I use a train remote for it combined with a monorail motor to turn. Edited November 5, 2013 by UrbanErwin Quote
JopieK Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 @UrbanErwin, not that complicated, I might 'steal' your idea and make a tutorial for it! Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Excellent idea 'UE', I have a friend who wants to build a similar kind of turntable.....except his engines are twice the size of the one you have on that turntable. Brick On 'UE' ! Quote
__________________________ Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 How you incased the PF stuff is very creative. I am not at all a train builder, and I really like this. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 must steal those! I have 6 monorail motors and a box full of curves to work with. Quote
timmyc1983 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 That's awesome! I love the overall look of it with the landscaping you've put in. I too would love to see a video of it working It's so big, this next layout you're working on must be rather large, I can't wait to see what you have planned! Happy building Quote
zephyr1934 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Great build (I have to stop look at stuff like this, it just makes me want to build a turntable and roundhouse, and I don't have time to build all the trains I want to build). At any rate, good work and excellent repurposing of the monorail parts. Quote
skriblez Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Very nice work :) Are the Monorail engines strong? Quote

Rob Klingberg Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Absolutely fantastic-- so well executed, and a wonderful and very creative re-use of the monorail motor and tracks. I always admire when people can create something that's round with such accuracy-- the bricks in the turntable well look like they themselves are round. Superb! Now we need to see it installed in a layout! Quote
JopieK Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 works very nice!!! My Bricklink order is on it's way ;) hope to make a tutorial for simple automation as promised! Quote
KringlesBricks Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Absolutely amazing! Turns very smoothly it seems in that perfect circle. I agree - we need to see it in a layout...and a nice roundhouse would like nice next to it Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 It is always nice to see these bits of railway landscape and to see that they work. Would love to build one but I know I have nowhere I could store it. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 This is a great work! Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Really cool thought out-of-the-box to use a monorail motor! Great job! I wanted to build my own turntable with Arduino as JopieK stated, future project though... Quote
Man with a hat Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Really nice and very inspirational. Makes me want to build one as well. Quote
Pief Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Really nice you made me jealous of your turntable Quote
UrbanErwin Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 Thanks all , I hope the layout connection is done soon. Quote
Kivi Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 The use of monorail tracks is a very interesting and faithful re-creation or a real driving mechanism, and the monorail engine appears to have just the right power for operation so the connection between the engine and the bridge does not fall apart when 'pulling' the entire thing. But there are some other fine details as well, especially the pit wall made of masonry bricks. Good luck with the rest of the layout. Quote
UrbanErwin Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Thanks it is making some fine progress already, there will be some RCX control in my new layout (not for the turntable) Quote
ScotNick Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 That turntable is very well made, although it's not purist . Have you thought of turning the turntable by powering some wheels under the turntable, the monorail motor looks a little odd to me ? Quote
