Burf2000 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Ages ago, I got sent some very nice 125mm Rotacaster wheels (actually the first to have them) and I built a simple large robot with them. Now, with the UK's largest LEGO show coming up, I thought I would build something a little bigger. Work in progress, 2nd version as first version broke when I sat on it! Its going to look like a car, drive like a tank, hopefully be NXT2WIFI controlled. 13-14 NXT's When it broke The main base area supports my weight and moves quicker than the wheelchair, my aim is for this to work outside. Once I get the subframe finished I post a video! Quote
CisFran Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 that's an insane number of frames and liftarms! Quote
eurotrash Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 You're daft as a brush, but keep at it... Quote
Burf2000 Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 I am making this to use up my 5 x 11 frames as I never use them for anything, much bigger fan of 5 x 7. I am hoping to build a large motor out of lego to show off, with pistons going up and down. wont power the car but would look cool Quote
Dreadredbeard Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 This is INSANE! I can't even imagine trying to build anything of this magnitude.... Do you have a drawing or rendering of the final idea of what you are building? Quote
Burf2000 Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Nope I make it up as I go along, planning it in my head lol! Quote
AlmightyArjen Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 This is very impressive! Got room for a GPS tracker? Quote
Lakop Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I think you need to be a bit mad to do what we do with our lego, but some take it that little bit further. What the heck! go for it, throw everything at it and keep the pictures coming. It's crazy the amount of beams and frames but we can't help but love it. My concern is do you have enough room to build it and how will you get it outside. H Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 That is crazy big! You say it'll look like a car, but drive like a tank... With that frame I thought, "Delorean-tank" Quote
timslegos Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 So many orange parts and frames! I always love your gigantic projects :) tim Quote
skriblez Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 So many parts! Can't wait for more pictures :) Quote
Burf2000 Posted September 16, 2013 Author Posted September 16, 2013 I hope to do an update tonight! Quote
Burf2000 Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 So manage to build the final shape and lay the 24 motor wires. I did give it a quick test on carpet and it can turn and drive me (85KG), It will work better on harder floor. Next is to put the NXT's to the front, wire up the controls, then build the shell. Quote
CisFran Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Good thing you scored a number of the licensed orange 5x11 panels Is that from Lego S@H or you bought tons of unimog? Your creation is mind boggling (for me) btw Quote
EyesOnly Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Wow that is really impressive in a crazy kind of way. Please leave a few frames on BL for the rest of us to buy. Quote
skriblez Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 This thing is awesome! Skynet next? Quote
Burf2000 Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Quite a lot of the parts have been left over from the LEGO Wheelchair and so I had them spare hence the colour scheme. Now, yes Skynet, well the funny thing is the next project I do will be a lot smarter than this, proper image processing etc Quote
Burf2000 Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Last night I spent quite a lot of time trying to work out if this is actually going to work, I decided to eat pick and mix sweets and just go for it. Trying to build the body now and made a seat Quote
Burf2000 Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 A slightly better pic, let me know if this is boring people! Quote
skriblez Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I ain't bored! I do want all of your orange panels though! Did you buy all they had at Lego? :P Quote
dvsntt Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Bored? not even a little. This thing is awesome. I want to see a video of it operating! Quote
