Sarles Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) Here is my Lego Patrol Craft. I don't have any specific genre I'm putting this into. I based the model off of the US Coast Guard Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutter. The model has three decks. The internal layouts still need to be finalized but I think I am about 98% done with the outside. I apologize for the ridiculous background but that is the stock background from LDD and I haven't found a way to create a better one yet. Any comments, critiques and questions are appreciated. Maybe the sides are a little flat and it could do with a bit more greebling as navy ships have plenty of masts and aerials whereas yours is a little plain. New Pilot house and 02-Level design with new mast elements and life-raft on the forward 01-Level roof. A few new stern details in the RIB recovery well as well as adding a stairwell from the main deck to the 02-Level. As always please feel free for comments and crits. Quote

The additions you've made are a definite improvement and if I was to have one observation it's that the sides and particularly the stern are still slab-sided. Rriggs' boat benefitted from using a pre-existing hull, and you've made some very effective nautical-type brick curves at the bow so I think maybe you just need to tweak the stern a bit. Do you have plans to build it in bricks? Quote

Sarles Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 I've made more improvements, I started really looking at the stern RIB recovery ramp and found it was too small for the Lego RIB boat that I was planning on using, so I had to lengthen the ship as well as re-design the doors. Thank you all for the comments on this ship. I've put lots of hours in to the design and will probably keep playing with the design for a little while longer but I am going to design three vessels in a series and then get a price on building them and then decide between the three which one to build with my teammate (daughter). Upon reading the comments, I have to agree, it is a bit too static on the sides. You should probably have a couple of slopes towards the bottom to make it a bit rounder. Quote

I have started the hull of my second ship in LDD and as it stands right now it has two rows of inward slope along the water line area. probably will have some blister areas on the hull as well I think. Im still only on the Fo'c'sle area build up right now. Quote

Just an FYI, the the 'R' in RIB's stands for "rigid" as apposed to rapid, at least with the way you designed the structure on top of the smaller craft. Still an excellent looking vessel Quote
