Kai NRG Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 ..Because my collection of Lego only consists of sets from the early 90s, mainly town, pirates and castle, I'm really restricted in minifigure choice. Especially ones that could be used as civilians in a GoH-context. Could you recommend some newer sets which have useful minifigures? I also know, that Lego never has done any greek or roman themed sets apart from a few collectible minifigures and therefor it's even harder to find something for that. I found brickforge.com who offers some nice custom greek accessories, but i always only find warrior equipment. Do you know any sites for custom civilians? Welcome to Kaliphlin! It's great to see Ulandus being fleshed out some more! I don't think there are any current sets that have a good selection of medieval or Greco-Roman civilians - bricklink is probably your best bet if you want to stock up on those sort of pieces... I'd suggest just buying a few of the torsos you'd find most useful! Hello, Prince of Persia, being my preferred theme ever, I am seriously considering joining Kaliphlin. The fact that Kaliphlin includes some of my favourite builders, only adds to my envy to join. I have however a few questions: - Do you allow fleshies? - Which city would require external fortifications? - I saw a contest which was held in the past about the Sultan Gate… Silly question… but where does the Sultan live…? - Is GoH suitable for a builder that makes max 5 creations a year or are we required to make frequent builds? Cheers! Yes, fleshies are permitted, though you sure didn't hear that from me. Petraea (the capital of Kaliphlin) has external fortifications, so does Qarkyr, probably Barqa as well, East Gate for certain, Sultan's Gate in addition... I think most cities that aren't just little hamlets would have external fortifications. Kaliphlin doesn't really have a Sultan - the city name, Sultan's Gate, is just a sort of relic. Right now the nominal ruler styles himself the Desert King, but he's only an imposter that will soon be done away with! (At least that would be my version.) Building frequently is not a requirement! TitusV Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Yeah, I have my latinum. But I prefer bad puns over grammar lessons. I'd prefer good puns but I get the point! It's just that I like my own name Quote
gedren_y Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Had a good photography session today. I got three builds done; the second part of the Nestlands Embassy, the next Quest for the Egg installment, and something I had waiting for Ska's mini-challenge. @ Tokru: I know many find the minidolls to be a waste, but 41101 Heartlake Grand Hotel looks to have a good assortment of white and gold pieces that would be useful in building Grecco-Roman style MOCs. The $130 (US) price tag may seem a bit much, but the proportion of usable parts makes it a good buy, if you can afford it. Edited February 12, 2016 by gedren_y Quote
TitusV Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Looking forward to these builds gedren! Quote
Tokru Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Here is my first little contribution: Zeno's travels in Ulandus I: Along the road And thanks for all the suggestions regarding minifigures and sets. Quote

There is also a Star Wars set #75139, it has some good pieces for Kaliphlin builds. 59.99 USD is expensive for what it is but, if you were able to sell the mini figures it would work out to quite a reasonable price. SkaForHire Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Welcome guys! @Tokru: did you really call him Titus? I'm so honored @Ska: the challenge looks great! But I have a question: is or allowed for people who have not participated in the KCW to participate in this? The Desert King accepts all who want to follow him.... and will purge all that don't. don leopold Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Hello guys, the last 4 weeks i have read a lot about the Guilds of Historica. It's a great story but i haven't read everything about it, but i decided to join the best Guilds of Historica for me and that must be Kaliphlin !!! I want to introduce : Leopold Leopold and his brother Michael grow up in the Lowlands, a land far away from Historica, and when they where young some viking boats arrived near the village and attacked them. There was a complete chaos, vikings killed people and plunder the houses, after that they burned everything. A lot of citizen flee to the forest and survived, but most of the men died or became prisoners. The vikings take the prisoners with them and sold them as a slave in other country's. Leopold and his brother Michael where lucky, they survived the viking attack together with their grandparents. But there was sad news too, their mother died and they couldn't find a body of their father. So he must be with the vikings as a prisoner. But lives goes on and the survivors of the big viking slaughter must rebuild the village, there was no time to mourn. Leopold and Michael made a promise to each other, that the are going to rescue their father when they are old enough to travel alone. And this is his brother Michael Leopold and Michael where educate by their grandparents and there was peace and harmony in the village after the rebuild. But Leopold and Michael forgot the promise they made because of the good life. The grandparents did a good job but they are getting old and one day grandfather died in his sleep. Grandmother missed him so much that she don't want to life without him, she became ill and was laying in bed all day. She feels that her time on earth has come and her last conversation was with Leopold and Michael. "I know you guys made a promise to find your father and free him" she said. "when i am dead there is nothing here in the Lowlands why you boys must stay here, you both are strong men now so go and find him but be very careful" "There where rumors" she told the guys "there where rumors that the viking traveled to a land called Historica" "I know that your father is there somewhere, I can feel it" The brothers are a bit confused by these words of grandma, they are a bit ashamed that they forgot the promise they made when they were young. But good old grandmother knew it all the time. "What about grandfather, does he knew it too about the promise?" asked Michael to his grandmother. "Yes my son, he knew it too" she said "First he wanted to do it by himself, but when we rebuild the village he was feeling old and want to give all his energy to teach his grandsons all he knows" "I told grandfather about the promise you made to each other" grandmother continued "and grandpa was very proud when he heard that" "So the boys are going to do the job" he said. "I must go now" grandmother said. "Where are you going?" asked Leopold. "I go to your grandfather, i miss him so much" she said and there where tears in her eyes. Leopold and Michael must cry too, it was time to say goodbye. "I love you so much, both of you and i am very proud that i might be your grandmother" and the boys give their grandmother the biggest hug they have ever given. A few minutes grandmother died and after they bury her, Leopold and Michael prepared for a big journey to a land called Historica !! Quote

BrickCurve Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Ska, I just noticed that under my name on the guild homepage. My character name is Lord Parimere. Image here Lord Parimere Of Kaliphlin by Henry Alekna, on Flickr Quote
gedren_y Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Quest for the Egg Part 4 is up: The Elf in the Old Quarry I had to do retakes of this build because most of the first round got deleted somehow. I have two more builds completely photographed, but still need to do a lot of photo editing before I post. Ska, what is the mini-challenge called? We need it so we can add it to the title of our builds, so they can be identified. Quote
BrickCurve Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) Are any of my fellow Kaliphlinites going to any Lego expos in the US or Canada in June? My Dad is going to a trade show in Las Vegas for work and I am tagging along as well. First time in the US for me and also my first experience of pick a brick! Bregir Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Welcome to Kaliphlin's new members! I always had a secret love for Kaliphlin (and the idea of Greco-Roman influences sounds great - I have missed that!), although naturally, the only real Guild for civilised and intelligent people is Avalonia! Otherwise it would be fun if we were allowed to make a new character/band of soldiers for this challenge. That way I could finally use my Kaliphlin Figs again. "Kaliphlin and Beyond" means that Mitgardians and Avalonians also have to come to Sultan's Gate? It does specifically say that you don't have to use your sig fig, so I don't see why you can't do as you propose. Great minichallenge, btw. I have the perfect chariot buried away in my storage of bricks 1200 km's away, but it seems I will just be a spectator to this one! Quote

Maxim I Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 (a hooded man entered a dark pub in Eastgate. He looked around him and went to the bartender. Once he ordered a good ale, he started whispering) - Tell me bartender, I am a foreigner from far away. I heard magnificent stories about Kaliphlin being a state with free cities. However now I have arrived here, it looks like there is a king ruling over them all. Could you tell me what happened the past months? I heard on the streets that mayor cities like Stedor were punished for refusing the new leader and that lords were bannished for this? So, what does the bartender replies? Quote
