Captain Settle Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Dark times were coming. Tolswick was being destroyed by the remaining members of The Hand of Corruption. Corvus Stronghold was their last defence. The MOC is on two 16x16 baseplates, which makes it my biggest MOC yet. This is the first baseplate, the pathway to the fortress. This is the stronghold itself. It's quite small, but so are most of my MOC's. The right side of the stronghold is in repair after the most recent attack. The stronghold is quite old, so vines are growing up the side. The small house bears the Avalonian dragon emblem. Thanks for looking, C&C welcome. Quote
Garmadon Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Very nice build, probably your best yet. It looks very Avalonian, the trees look good, the wall texture is great BTW, in the first pic you can barely see the minifigs, was that on purpose Quote
Captain Settle Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Thanks! No, the minifigs were not blocked on purpose, but I couldn't get past the trees. Quote
Nightstalker Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I like the rugged look of the stronghold. I'm rather envious of your dark gray "brick" pieces. Quote
Maxim I Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I like the perspective in here It gives the feeling that the MOC is bigger than it actually is Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Nice job, I agree this is one of your best! Good stonework and well made gates As a side note, you admit that it's small for a stronghold. So why do you call it a stronghold, outpost would have been better and more believable Quote
Captain Settle Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 So why do you call it a stronghold, outpost would have been better and more believable Ah, that was the word I was looking for! I kept on thinking that castle sounded to big and fort sounded more western. Outpost would have been just right. Quote
Gideon Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I like that you are expanding your scale step by step, keep it up! In this build I like the dark grey wall with the vines best, but it would have looked even better in my opinion if you had built it with some overlap to break up the columns of bricks. The module with the road and ground is also good, especially the foilage on the sides of the road. Quote
Captain BeerBeard Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Some advice: I notice you always stack your 1x2 bricks directly over each other. Try some builds where you offset them by a stud. This will make your buildings much stronger and better looking. Try to make your corners look stronger by beefing them up. This will make your forts look more intimadating. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Cool little outpost, I agree with CBB and Gideon that overlapping the bricks in the walls rather than building columns would improve it a bit. Nice inclusion of the dragon shields and Avalonian colors Quote
