Kwon Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Hello! Seems I am newbie, Anyway First topic RC lego boats Seems Very interesting, you can do that easy with many kinds of lego Boat Hulls. But that was a bit hard to buy (I don't know it is only happen to me ) So, I tried to make boat without boat hulls. In april, I made something, which is Very Slow, Just float a bit, Also Can't turn. And, I just tried to make something turn, But with NXT, that was So Slow, just Turning... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zr5MtfozOL4 (first part of this video) Now, Starting again, I wonder you can give me some tips, and suggestions. Thanks! Quote
legomuppet9 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Use the hulls, Lego isn't designed to float except for the hulls so unless you want to damage your expensive motors, you need to use the hulls. Just saying Also, Sariel has built quite a few boats http://sariel.pl/category/marinevessels/ Quote
tibivi Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Actually, we of BeLUG organise each year a rc boat race, it's very fun I even made a water skier But for a good lego boat, you will need a boat hull or a creator box (like mahj) or bionicle boxes, You will find many good designs on youtube Greets, Tibivi Quote
DLuders Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Mahjqa built this all-Lego Boat powered with Lego RC components -- see the : Quote

efferman Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 at 4:16, is this an voith schneider propeller? Quote
Ramacco Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 (edited) Yes Efferman, it are voith schneider propellers. I went did a search on our LUG forum for a picture of it and this is what I found so far: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/T-H-O-M-A-S/boat/ Edited June 23, 2013 by Ramacco Quote
efferman Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 thanks, a different solution to my method. how good does it have worked? btw your 2012 race is nice to see too Quote
Ramacco Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 (edited) It worked pretty good, but it wasn't that fast. The competition was mainly about 'who has the fastest boat', but I think we can say the we all liked the voith schneider the most, due to his complexity. In the 2012 series I rebuild your boat in yellow, but this one sank during the competition. I think this came because I used a normal PF battery box, so the weight was more on the front side. The red one with the 6 paddles is also my boat. We are now planning a 2013 boatrace and this will probably take place on July, 6th. Expect a movie from that race within a week after the race :) BTW: I like your voith schneider a lot! Edited June 23, 2013 by Ramacco Quote
efferman Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 you make my day . it seems that the tripod naturally want to be an undersee vessel it reminds me to this event do you think someone will try my voith schneider this year? Quote
Ramacco Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 (edited) Yes indeed! But all the parts survived, so it was fun afterwards to have that on video. :) About your voith schneider, I will post a link on our forum to ask if anyone want to try that. Maybe if I have the correct parts, I will try to rebuild those for my own vessel (I don't have the normal screws, so I need to find every year another solution to make my boat go back and forward ) Edited June 23, 2013 by Ramacco Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I don't wand to try mine schips in the water Quote
rocklego Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 To Kwon: If you want a boat function properly above surface of water , you will have to reduce water resistance to hull so that boat can move smoothly over the water. Quote
