Karlson Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I was really unhappy with the 'Battle at the Black Gate' structure included in the set since it was, in all actuality, only half the representation of the Black Gate of Mordor. Furthermore, the instruction booklet did recommend combining two of same set together to form a larger version; however, that too was incorrect since it created two different gates! So, with my beginner experience in freelance Lego construction, I decided to combine the two in the correct fashion to form my ideal imagining of the Black Gate. Now all I need is some Gondorian soldiers! (...and of course lots of more filthy Orcs.) Quote
Kez Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 The black gate set looks really good with two sets put together (and a bit of modding), its really tempting me to buy a second black gate set and put all of the main characters on eBay and then maybe keep the extra two orcs, btw nice setup and thanks for doing the comparison. jmagaletta Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Looks great. I have been waiting for a picture of this. Great job and definitely solidified my choice to get two. Quote
kgyore Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I miss the two cave trolls pulling the back end of the gate : ) That was a great scene. Of course, it probably would not have fit in the price range of the set. All in all, it is a great set and i would also recommend combining the two gates. Looks really cool ! Quote
Karlson Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 Yes, the gate trolls would have been a perfect addition. I would have also like to have seen the armored battle troll that nearly kills Aragorn during the final battle (which is also featured multiple times in the video game as well.) But then again, I'd like Easterlings, Haradrim, Shagrat, Gorbag... ahh, the list goes on and on. Just gotta keep my fingers crossed for a heavily Gondor-themed third wave of sets. Quote
MikroMan Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Yup, this looks way better than the original set, simply because you get a feeling of completeness Quote
SheepEater Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 (edited) Hi! I stumbled upon this thread and I'd like to share in my experience. - Bought my 2nd black gate on eBay without minifigs for cheap. Got the 2 missing orcs on BrickLink (plus a 2008 orc) along with two cheap "Gondor Soldiers". . Also got a few more accessories on BrickLink. Aragorn uses Anduril (a chrome Lego greatsword) so I gave his basic sword to the soldier. Got a bow, a shield, and orc hairpiece and an armor for the orcs, and a silver spear + shield for the gondorians. - Found an excellent LXF file of the extended black gate on www.lordofthebrick.com , it looks familiar to the topic creator's, maybe the topic creator submitted it to them? Anyway, thanks guys! I had to somewhat modify it, though. It lacked many of the recent parts, and I had to retool the SNOT front plates a bit so that I could fit in the door knobs so that it could look more like the official build. - This is the set exactly as it appear in my room, minifigs positioned like that.... except for the two orcs that are on each tower, I can't fit them there on LDD, so they are right on the back. And Gandalf's cape won't fit in LDD, either. Black Gate LXF file Minifigs only Edited September 29, 2013 by SheepEater Quote
SMC Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I just picked up 2 black gates from the amazon sale and am wondering if I should do it like this or keep the gate the size it is and add wells next to each tower. Quote
kermit Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 This definitely looks better than just the one gate and more closely to the movie version. Good job. Quote

Mutant Orc Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Oh no!! Now I want second black gate but the price is Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Looks so much better with two and you get an extra eagle which is always useful. Quote
SheepEater Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) Oh no!! Now I want second black gate but the price is I don't recommend buying it twice at full price. You can easily find it without animals and minifigs for around 30$, if you don't wanna bother selling the extra figs on bricklink. I didn't want a 2nd eagle, since I already got the one from orthanc. You DO want the orcs, though. Edited October 16, 2013 by SheepEater Quote
SMC Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 or wait for a sale got 2 £40 each on amazon, I am planning on keeping the gate as it is and having walls on each side of the towers will post when its done but will be a couple of weeks. Quote
Mr Breden Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) This looks really good ,I am tempted to buy second set now... Edited October 21, 2013 by Mr Breden Quote

Blazej_Holen Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Weird extension, you create too large gate (doors), so I recomend you to use these wall pieces for walls on the other side of the watch towers, not as a gate. Basicly there is no invention on your post - sorry :) Quote
Onos Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Nice work... I will try to do something similar with my two sets... Quote
