Norro Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I have a bad conscience because of it. There are more important things to worry about ;-) I hope you all don Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 21, 2007 Governor Posted February 21, 2007 Well look at all those red roof pieces - just what I need for my latest MOC! Quote
simonwillems Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Great little square you have made there! I especially like the use of the logpieces in the "Fachwerkhaus" (don't know the English word for it at the moment...) The tree forms a lovely centerpiece with the bench around it. Well look at all those red roof pieces - just what I need for my latest MOC! Well Mister Phes, I didn't know your lego-collection was that limited, not even having those 7 or 8 roof pieces... :-D Quote
Starwars4J Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 There are more important things to worry about ;-) Heathen! :-P But really, thanks for sharing this wonderful little MOC with us. There's something about it that I love, the quaintness of it all I think. Now my respect for Norro when it comes to MOCs from this era is unsurpassed, but I actually like that it's not THAT busy. I do think a little more clutter would be a good idea, but not involving people. Maybe put a wagon wheel against a store. To get rid of the order maybe give one of the table three people to sit at, instead of both of them having two, maybe throw a child in there, etc. Lots of fun and easy ways to make it look more natural (it's actually my favorite part of MOCing). I'm in love with that marble tile around the square, and while the owls are a nice touch, if you have a kitten piece I'd throw that in somewhere (same goes for a dog). Can't wait to see more of your MOCs :-) Quote
Sir Dillon Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 This looks very good Sandra, I think you've really improved from your previous creations. And don't feel sorry about not posting much. Despite what some of us would like to think, there are things more important then the online Lego community. ;-) A few things that I think would improve this creation would be: More people. I think a few more people strolling about, and maybe a cart would look nice. On the houses, I would suggest making the chimneys grey, instead of the color of the tudor parts of the shop. I don't think it would go so well for the owners if they had wooden chimneys. X-D Swap the window frames on the brown shop and white shop. I think the white frames on the brown shop look out of place at the moment. If you gave it the black ones, it'd look better. Nice work overall. *y* Quote
Athos Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Legocastlegirl I didn't believe such things existed. ;-) Anyhow about the MOC: very nice! I'll post more later tonight after I've had time to look more at it. Steve Quote
Asuka Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Very nice work! *y* I like that the second floor of your houses overhangs the first floor, and that black and yellow house (a blacksmith I guess?) is really clever. Quote
ghoulrealm Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I don't think you could ever have too many details, but is still a great village square you have there. *wub* I especially like the use of the logpieces in the "Fachwerkhaus" (don't know the English word for it at the moment...) I believe it's called a "half-timbered framework house" or "tudor style house" in english? I've always loved these style houses with or without the cross timbers. Quote

Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted February 21, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted February 21, 2007 This is beautiful! I love it *wub* It really doesn't matter if you don't post much when your posts are of such high quality. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 21, 2007 Governor Posted February 21, 2007 Well Mister Phes, I didn't know your lego-collection was that limited, not even having those 7 or 8 roof pieces... :-D Actually my LEGO parts collection IS and ISN'T limited. It ISN'T limited because I've got 1000's of pieces, most of them specialised I.e. Castle walls, palm tree components, etc. But it IS limited because I don't have many generic pieces in colours other than white and yellow I.e. 1 x 3 or 1 x 4 or 1 x 6 bricks or red slopes. But enough about me... Lets focus on Sandra's MOC... So I'll begin with a quick synopsis... I think its beautifully designed, the colours work harmoniously together and are very appropriate for what LEGO is depicting. The architecture is superb as everything seems to be built really well and I don't think I could recommend any design improvements at this stage, although my MOCing abilities are quite limited at this stage so maybe that assessment would be different had I better skills. The little details are charming like the tub full of carrots and pumpkins, the well, the flowers on the lily pads, the mini-figures eating at the table and the crates of bread and vegetables - although I'm not sure if orange is a suitable colour for a Medieval MOC so perhaps brown crate would be more to my liking. But there's just one thing... When I look at this MOC I don't get the "sense" of a market taking place, even despite the little touches I just mentioned. It seems too sparse like there's not enough activity for it to be a market. I think it needs more "hussle and bussle" but not so much that it becomes overcrowded and busy. So there's my opinion... Berry Syedow Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Hello, Castlegirl! This is the first time I've seen you around these parts, but like the others said, there's no need to apologize for sharing MOCs, arguably the cornerstone of LEGO communities! On to the MOC: I agree with some posters who don't think that this has the hustle and bustle of a medieval marketplace. Maybe all of the greenery is a part of it since most areas with high traffic usually turned into giant dirt roads or became paved with stones. Also, when I think of medieval market places, I imagine there being many tents set up and as a consequence, the surrounding areas becoming very crowded. 'Course I was never around when M.M.P. existed, so those ideas could be pure fantasy! Other than the context of the MOC I like the builds very much! The tree in the courtyard is beautiful! The tudor style houses are good; my favorite is the yellow blacksmith shop. I agree with Sir Dillon that the chimneys would look better in grey. Thanks for showing us your MOC and don't be afraid to share more! Quote
highlandcattle Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Very nice, I love what you have done with your limited parts collection. (although I see some sick people:(THE FLESHIES!) I myself am also working on a market square, (although in a different time period) Keep on MOCing! @Phes: Buy yourself a building bonanza or the new house and you'll have enough roof pieces for a while!
