drdesignz Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 This is my remote controlled conceptual lowrider chassis proof of concept design with functional "hydraulics". I built it months ago. But I haven't had the time to build the body, so I figured I'd share my work in progress. I've seen several Lego lowrider cars with working "hydraulics", but not with a full four-way independently controlled design. It seemed like a good challenge for me, so I built it. I think it works well. But I'd like to incorporate clutches to keep the gears from grinding when the suspension travel limit is reached. The chassis also has a simple two speed transmission built in. The steering wheel will be functional too. I've already built that and some more since this video was taken. There are four actuators, each with its own motor. The new servo is used for the steering and two L-motors power the rear wheels. Three receivers will be required. One big concern I have is when the car is finished, I wonder if it will be too heavy for the actuators, especially with the battery box. I suppose I'll find out, eventually. Quote
timslegos Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Nice use of the mLAs. How well does it drive with the gearbox? tim Quote
Doc_Brown Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 That is sweet! Very very cool. When I think of lowriders, I think of very wide low American cars with a soft top down. I really hope you come up with something like that. Good work tho! Quote
drdesignz Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 Nice use of the mLAs. How well does it drive with the gearbox? tim Not very well, actually. It needs work. The gears slip and will jump out of gear. That is sweet! Very very cool. When I think of lowriders, I think of very wide low American cars with a soft top down. I really hope you come up with something like that. Good work tho! Thanks, yeah I'm thinking in the style of a big early to mid 1960's American car. Something like a Lincoln Continental, Ford Galaxy, or Chevrolet Impala. I've thought about a convertible, but I'm not sure yet. Quote
Doc_Brown Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 yeh a 64 Lincoln Continental is awesome! Deff my fav with suicide doors. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2359192/1964-lincoln-continental/ Quote
Eigenbroetler Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 a 64 lincoln! yumm! do it. if you do it, i will probably want to build me one aswell, if you would be doing an ldd file :D Quote
SteveNesta Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Love it, and love the use of the LA's. I was thinking of doing the same with my tank, but got sidetracked. Really looking forward to see more :-) Quote
pint14 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I have many times thought about using LA-s for lowrider, but i dont like it beacuse there is no suspension. Maybe you could use pneumatics? Quote
Zerobricks Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I would have used the mini pneumatic cylinders. They can be used as springs, and they can be extended quite fast, like real hydraulics. Quote
