I'm not sure if anyone will read this post in time (I will likely buy the a set within the next two hours), but, if anyone does, which set would you buy between these two:

79006 The Council of Elrond for $26

79002 Attack of the Wargs for $34.55

This is in USD and those prices are after tax and shipping. Sets are NIB.

I'm leaning towards 79002 as I really like how the tree looks in the pictures and the minifigs/wargs are quite good other than Yazneg. 79006 is also very pleasing to the eye with great minifigs but I imagine it will be available for that price at a later date (I don't mind waiting).

Edit: I decided to simply buy both sets. :innocent:

You're saving more money with the 79002, which has a MSRP of $50 compare to $30 for the 79006. You also get more pieces and figures for your money with the 79002. Although I like the minifigs in 79006 better, elrond and arwen. I wonder why it comes with a brick separator. Interesting. I'd get the 79002 for more figures and more interesting pieces.

Thanks for the insight, Fuzzy, even though I ninja edited my post while I'm assuming you were typing yours. Yes, going by the amount saved compared to the MSRP, 79002 is the better deal (not counting minifig preference, piece value, etc.); however, Amazon regularly sells it at $40 so I think that is the price I should compare it with. 79006 is, IMO, quite pricey at its MSRP, but I have my doubts that it will get any cheaper than what I paid ($24 + tax) at a reputable e-tailer. I would have definitely gotten 79006 at some point in time, while 79002 is a set that I was only going to purchase when a hefty sale was going on it.

Hence my decision to purchase both. Since it is from Amazon, I also get 3% in Rewards points making the deal a bit sweeter.

And, now that you mentioned it, the brick separator is indeed odd for such a small set. I actually don't own one so it will definitely come in handy.

Best Classics Town sets any recommendations guys?

When it comes to town sets my thoughts would be city or modulars seeing as they are the closest to a town theme, the town hall is a set worth getting a nice selection of figs and pieces. An enjoyable and intersting build

I also need to make a set descion; the UCS starfighter or the UCS B-wing?

Blast - As in Classic Town from the 80s/90s? Before they made the switch to City? I remember loving the 6379 Riding Stable from 1986. I remember having a lot of fun with 6395 Victory Lap Raceway from 1988, or 6376 Breezeway Cafe or 6396 International Jetport were favorites of mine as a kid.

If you are talking about something else, then I don't know. I loved the early 90s of everything LEGO. I had a good assortment of every theme out there back then.

Ok you guys I got a tough one and need your help. Here's the scenario. There are 2 items (well, I clump a set into 1 item) I want to get for September, VW T1 Camper Van (10220) and the 3 Minecraft sets (21102, 21105, 21106)

. The VW T1 Van has been out since October 2011, it's been on the shelf for 2 years. I have a feeling it will be retired soon, because 2 years is a very long time. Some models don't even last a year. Minecraft sets are super popular, and with the release of 2 new sets in September, I predicting another shortage in supply. They're both great looking display pieces and I don't wanna miss out on them when they're still available, especially the VW T1 Van. An option I can do is get the current Minecraft set plus the VW T1 Van on September 1st, then order the 2 new Minecraft sets in October, as I don't see them retiring any time soon, at least not this year anyway. Ps. I'm also planning on getting the 42008 Tow Truck sometime this year as well.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I'll get the VW T1 Camper + Minecraft 21102 in September, then the other 2 Minecraft sets in October!

This is a tricky one. On the one hand, LEGO makes a new version of the x-wing every few years, while they've only made 1 b-wing. In fact, the b-wing is so unpopular, you can get it with 25% off at a lot of places. In terms of visual appeal, the new UCS x-wings trumps the UCS b-wing hands down. If it were up to me, I would still get the UCS x-wing despite knowing they'll come up with an updated version in the future.

Thanks, I'll go for the X-wing, I've seen it displayed at the Lego shop and it generally I feel looks better than the B-wing.

Ewok Village or Orthanc? I'm a minifig collector, but I also display my sets, which Orthanc is meant for, so I'm not sure.

Those are two wildly different sets. Since they are just coming out they'll be around for a while, so you have some time to decide. I think they both make great display pieces, although the Ewok Village will be easier to keep on a shelf since Orthanc is so tall. Personally, I'd get the Ewok Village, but I'm more of a Star Wars collector than LotR. I like the pieces better in the Ewok set too, lots of great tree and vegetation pieces if you want to MOC a forest scene, or a Forestman's hideout in the Castle theme. You really can't go wrong with either set though.

I keep reading about how the Orthanc is show piece, but personally I feel like it's just a big black column, there's nothing special about it... For the wow factor, I'd go with the Ewok Village with its expansive layout with the tree houses and walkways. And it has 15 minifigs!

Exaclty the "problem" I have.

I love LOTR, but think Orthanc is too monotone and in general not really a super cool set I would expect for that price.

Also too expensive to get for completeness only.

Perhaps I would get it anyway, but there's Ewok village - which is a Lothlorien forest waiting to happen...

And I really like it.

So, I think I'll go with the village, despite the fact that I'm not into SW.

Orthanc looks great, saw it in a lego shop and it is a showpiece for sure and as for price it seems a lot better than Ewok village which costs more and I think you get less other than minifigs. I love all the black, for one it should be black and I can use all the parts apart from the fact I would never want to take it apart. Cant understand a LOTR fan not loving it. As for Ewok village you get lots of minifigs and parts of it look good but in a way it looks like a set you could make by buying lots of smaller sets and putting them together.

Very interesting question. I did purchase Orthanc when it was released early to the public and it is quite impressive. It does add some play features on the inside and all of the little details are great. Pictures definitely don't do the set justice because of the black, but up close you can spot every little detail easily. Very impressive scale as a display piece. I highly recommend it. The downside is the few figures you get with it. Only one exclusive. Very disappointing, but set wise, it's great for the price.

Ewok Village looks great on its own and has a huge line-up of figures, so it trumps out there, but it is also more expensive. I think it would look great on a shelf and I agree it might fit better because Orthanc is so tall. However, it seems Ewok Village is actually quite tall and wide, so it might still be difficult to display.

I think it comes down to, are you a bigger Star Wars or LOTR fan? That will settle it in the end. Both are brilliantly designed and both are at similar price points.

In the end, I think I would choose Orthanc, only because I'm a bigger LOTR fan. But I do plan on getting Ewok Village in the future also.

$256 for my birthday..

What should I get?

What sort of themes do you like? Are you a person who is more into minifigs or the building process? Do you prefer to display or play? With $256 you have many options. With such limited information all I can suggest is a shop at home exclusive type set like a modular, Tower of Orthanc or maybe Arkham Asylum.

Going back a few, Fuzzy, I have the camper van, it is a lot of fun to build and is compact so will fit nicely on a shelf or somewhere out of the way to store it...I had originally gotten the VW Beetle Charlotte a while ago and this compliments, but nowhere near the same size. The Beetle is huge, the camper is not...but the camper has a ton of detail. Minecraft is wildly different, my daughter loves this set and is patiently waiting til Sept but you are right, I can see this out of stock quickly just like the recent DeLorean, but the nice thing is the DeLorean was back in stock quickly so I would say get the camper since it is oldest for now.

As to the other questions, my opinion is that Orthanc is displayed in our local Lego store and is really cool, I like it a lot but am saving for the Sydney Opera House although I am not sure where I will put it once I make it, likely going to build and tear apart cause I do not have any place to put it for now. Any of the modular buildings are great, have 5 of them (not the original 3) and purchased some streets to run along in front, makes a great display. Got the HH too but need to put it together, am going to pop it along on the end of the other modulars for that creepy house down the street. I only wish they would package 2 straight road pieces together instead of a straight and an intersection.
