I have been making changes to my 42000 model over the past few days and the first thing I realized right away was that the new hubs are not at all useful for this type of design. They are too wide to be used on a modern Formula 1 car and that is the reason for the almost cartoonish track width on the stock design.

I still have some more ideas that I want to try but I wanted to share how nice the 42000 can look with a few small changes!

- Side pods widened by one stud and moved forward slightly along with roll hoop and floor

- Chassis lengthened by two studs between front and rear axles

- Revised front wing

- Yellow pieces changed to black or gray

- Front suspension mounting points moved forward one stud

- Rear drive shafts changed to u-joints to allow for hubless design

- Flexible axles added to engine cover

- Safety light added to rear

- Rear diffuser added

- Track width reduced by two studs on front and rear

Can't really say I notice the difference, since I haven't built the model myself. I can say it does look great! And your black-and-white-color-combo-photos are very well done! :thumbup:

It looks so much better without the stickers!

I don't own it myself so I can't compare, but you did a great job, especially "Yellow pieces changed to black or gray" and the front spoiler.

The proportions of the modified 42000 model now seem closer to the real F1 racecars, such as this Ferrari below. Perhaps the front wing should be widened more on the model (to prevent "running up" onto the back of other racecars when drafting):

Nice work - love the improvements! Do you feel like anything was compromised with any of your changes?

I haven't built this one yet but will definitely revisit this thread when I do. I had already planned on replacing the goofy yellow pieces and probably tweaking a few others.

It doesn't seem any less rigid than before even with the added length. The wheels are now attached by a single axle since I didn't use the new hubs and it's rather pathetic that they now feel more secure than before. The new hubs are way too wobbly! The single axle solution works better because it allows for a tighter, more accurate suspension.

The only issue with my changes is that the flexible axles extending from the roll hoop must be detached at the base near the rear wing in order to lift the engine cover. Not a big deal for me though since I display it closed. I will be changing the front and rear wings soon to get them more in line with the 2009-present F1 cars. Wish I had a few more white beams though!
