BMW Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 (edited) I've recently started photographing a long backlog of MOCs. Here is the finished Wild Wild West train which took Best Train at Brickworld 2012: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjvZkYzK . The prototype can be seen here: http://wanderer.jame.../MAIN_PAGE.html The train is notable as it is built to scale using 1 stud = 1 foot taking advantage of figures with the long Toy Story arms and legs. It also features several excellent applications of structural stickers around the cylinders, domes, and on the coach roofs. - Brian Williams Edited April 12, 2013 by Fugazi Quote
viracocha Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 It is very cool! So many details to study. No words for the comment only emotions! Quote
bricks n bolts Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Beautiful detailing BMW Have some questions, what paint did you use for the side of the wheels, do you think it will take long running without scraping off? How did you finish off the sides of that brilliant head lamp? Are those the Enlighten window pieces that come with printed curtains in the carriage? Also love the horse on your previous "Battle of San Juan Hill" creation Quote
Spitfire2865 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Simply amazing. I love all the little details. The bell caught my eye. Amazing use of handcuffs. Quote
PsyKater Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 It's unbelievable. I will borrow many ideas. I remember using customs stickers for structure as a kid now. Now I'd be torn between considering that as cheating or thinking it is really clever. I tend to the latter. Just great! Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 One word.....AWESOME ! I it, wonderful detailing.....fits the period perfectly......Brick On 'BMW' ! Quote

Wheels - To improve the appearance of the drivers, the flanges are dyed black and chrome silver stickers wrapped around the tires. This is a static model so no wear problems are encountered. For operational loks I have successfully run for years with tires wrapped with vinyl tape. But dyed flanges will wear so better to use a black driver and sticker or paint the spokes instead. Headlamp - Read about the headlamp trick here: http://flic.kr/p/anEyob . Curtains - The curtains are custom stickers applied to the backside of the wall plates on the inside of the parlor car: http://flic.kr/p/anBMXK . Edited March 27, 2013 by BMW Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Great interior shots of the coaches and furnishings, also in the cab on the engine. One question, what do you mean by 'structural stickers?' Quote
The Reclaimer Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 It looks like may favorite the w.&a.r.r. number 3 general 4-4-0 steam train that I have seen in real life. Its so beautiful I love the cars. The engine is amazing hope more awesome model you have out did your self thank you. Quote
BMW Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 One question, what do you mean by 'structural stickers?' Structural stickers span / cover gaps between bricks or are used to attach bricks to one another. There are examples of older Lego sets which use stickers to span multiple bricks. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Brian, the train is nice (well, okay it is fantastic), but the display base is completely over the top insane. Quote
CopMike Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I saw it in real life at Brickworld and I can only agree with everybody else - it´s fantastic ! And so did the majority of the voters for Best Train also : Quote
Werlu Ulcur Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I'm not a big fan of steam engines but that is a thing of beauty! Quote
