Pate-keetongu Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) Inspired by the first Hobbit movie I built these two dwarves, brothers Balin and Dwalin. Weta did such a great job with the dwarf designs, and it was interesting yet hard to build these. Dwalin also has a movable arms and couple of battle axes on his back. You can read more about these guys on Cyclopic Bricks. Feedback appreciated! EDIT: Their cousin Oin was late for the party! May I intoduce you to this brave northern dwarf with quite a bad hearing? More about techniques etc. at Cyclopic Bricks. Edited February 4, 2013 by pig Quote
Infernum Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Wow! Love these guys! I love how you did their clothes and Dwalin's axes! Nice job! Quote

Pate-keetongu Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) Thank you! Awesome figures, also showing you udnertsand these guys' looks better than msot would! Any plans for the other 11? You will see more. There's a hint about the next one on my blog, and I have ideas for more, but I needs some more bricks... Tan headlight bricks especially. EDIT: Except that it looks like I have at least 11 tan headlights. The unexpected party might get bigger. Edited February 2, 2013 by pig Quote

jimmynick Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 The front of Balin's shirt is very nice with all those cheese slopes, and Dwalin's face looks really good. Well done, pig! Quote
Leo604 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 You put a lot of detail into this, well done! Quote

TheLegoDr Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 This is brilliant! I love how these turned out. Instantly recognizable if you've seen the movie or read about the movie designs. I definitely want to see the rest. Keep up the good work! Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Amazing characters! I like the way you have made the beard and eyebrows! Quote
SheepEater Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Me likes! I wanna see their minifig counterparts standing next to them (or more likely, on their heads!) Quote
brodey1 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 These are awesome! They reflect the movie characters perfectly. Quote
Pate-keetongu Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 Thanks, everyone! Me likes! I wanna see their minifig counterparts standing next to them (or more likely, on their heads!) I'd like to see that too, and I'm planning to buy Unexpected Gathering to get Balin and Dwalin. I don't usually buy big sets (79003 costs 100€ here) but Bag End is especially good one. But I have not seen in anywhere here; it's on the local catalog and said to be released on December 2012, but none of the local stores have them... Got to continue searching. Quote
LukeClarenceVan Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Haha, top-notch work on these guys! Quote

Pate-keetongu Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Thanks everyone! Glad you like these hairy little men. I added the third Dwarf on the first post, check him and tell what you think! Could some kind moderator or regulator or who ever has the proper EB-magic powers change the topic's name so it would consist all three? Thank you! Quote
Flobnomdob Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 These are extraordinary! I love the NPU on Oin's moustache and the use of 'brick' bricks is inspired! Looking forward to the next! Quote
Graysmith Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 A beard made of handcuffs! Too brilliant. Great job. I'd love to see more of them, including Bilbo and Gandalf. Quote
Endeavour Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 These are quite inspiring. I especially love the technique you used for Oin's beard. Quote
