rumpletump Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I have been a fan of the 8069 Backhoe loader since I bought one about a year ago. I think it is pretty good value for the money and a nice supply of the mini LA's. A few of you may have cottoned on by now that I like to make alternates with my sets and yes I have been at it again I have built an alternate to the 8069 Backhoe Loader. The design is not overly complex however the lack of space to fit the all the grearing made for a few interesting challenges.. - It uses just over 95% of the parts included in the original set. - Articulated steering (HOG) - Lifting of the bucket. - Tilting of the bucket. - The bucket is controlled by toggles located on the back end of the loader. You can check out all the pics on MY MOC PAGES Please feel free to comment. If I get enough interest I may model it up in LDD for others to build. Quote
Lost_In_Noise Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 This looks very good. Can you explain how the steering works? I guess it's similar to the 8265's articulated body. I was wondering how you manage to gear the HOG axle sufficient to turn the LA fast enough to work as a steering unit with so few parts. I'm guessing it's the black axle connectors in the back that controls the functions. Thanks for sharing Quote

Basically I have a 20 tooth bevel onto a 12 tooth bevel then running directly into the LA.. It requires only 1/2 the LA travel to turn fully from center to any one side so if you give the steering wheel (the light) a few quick sharp twists you get your steering. Space is really the problem with gearing it up any more.. There isn't much of it hehe. Umm yeah it's the black axle connectors in the back that control the functions. Lost_In_Noise Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 *Snip* Thanks for the info. I have got this set, but haven't even bulit the alternate model yet Quote
rener Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I think you did a wonderful job with this one set moc, great looks and functionality! The steering looks particularly impressive, reminds me of an oldie: http://www.peeron.com/scans/8889-1/82 . Possibly the first technic design with articulated steering? Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Very nice model - great job! I also like the 8069 set a lot - one of the best for the money IMO. I love all of the functionality of the model per space and pieces. It is the perfect size and weight for playability also. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Nice job rumpletump. I think the back could be with a restyle, the back wheel arches are too high. Quote
Zerobricks Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Looks great! Almost official too. Quote
rumpletump Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 Thanks for all the nice feedback guys. @ Alastair.. Now you mention it I can see the wheel arches may look good a bit lower. I will give it some thought Quote
Tkavan01 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 That is awesome, the 8069 is what my wife bought me to get me into it with my son, I really like how this model almost negates the different sized tires... Did you ever get around to any instructions? Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 That is a really nice alternate model. I especially like the LA used for steering. Quote
