SNIPE Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Can the 60c01 gear with clutch be dismantled without breaking it? I want to use it as a 24 tooth idler gear so Id have to take the rubber bits out of the inside but leave the middle bit in still, or take that out as well and put a bush inside. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Yes on one side you can see that it clips into the other side so I think you should be able to separate them by using a sharp knife or small flat head screwdriver. Quote
SNIPE Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 Wont I need 4 hands, lego stuff is hard to get apart most of the time Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) Wont I need 4 hands, lego stuff is hard to get apart most of the time With most of these 'clip into place' things you can 'loosen' them off a bit from the other part quite easily. Do this all the way round gradually and it should come off. Edited September 12, 2012 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
SNIPE Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 I can't even get the tabs loose ive tried pushing in and tried pushing up or down Quote

skylinedan Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I,m gonna just take a drill and clean the hole out, I,ve got a bunch and can get more if needed. I knida like the idea of having a idler that size, suprised LEGO never came up with one, be a use full part. Dan Quote
Carsten Svendsen Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Or you could just put the clutch gear on a buggy motor and hold the gear while it's spinning. The rubber inside will get hot and deformed to a circle so that it's able to rotate freely Quote

The rubber inside will get hot and deformed to a circle so that it's able to rotate freely Upon further inspection, thanks to drdesignz for the image, it uses two spring metal plates laid out in parralel, the centre hole rotates them and they bend when they get to the small nubs of the second half of the gear, then unflex when it leaves contact with a nub. so ill just take out the plates and if I want an idler with a 5mm hole I will take out the grey centre bit too or replace it with an easier to remove ,technic bush.
