CamelBoy68 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 As part of my fathers 70th birthday, I thought a nice centre piece would be this recreation of Kent House in London, as he worked there for many years. Kent House is also known as the LWT (London Weekend Television) building or the London Television Studios. It was built in the late sixties/early seventies and was quite an iconic building for its time. With it being situated on the south of the Thames, it afforded some stunning views of Parliament, The City and St Pauls - you can get these views and more from the London Eye these days. I have only built the tower rather than the lower studio area, as my father only worked in the building on the 19th/20th floor. However, the completist in me might make me finish the job. The finished model is a little taller than the R2 model, but has a small footprint of 16 x 16. There are approx 2500 pieces in the finished design, as the centre core is not hollow. My original plan was fairly straight forward in LDD, but I soon realised it would be highly unstable without proper strengthening and support - so every few floors or so they are fixed to the core. To finish up, I printed a custom sticker for the display stand, to give it that UCS look. I look forward to your comments... Hrw-Amen Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 That does look remarkably like the real one. I hope that your father likes it and has a good birthday. Is he also a fan of LEGO? Quote

Funny enough yes Technic & trains seem to be a particular favourite of his - so the 4x4 Crawler is now in his posession... Quote
AncientDayz Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 This is a beautiful recreation of the real thing. I think I may have been tempted to replicate the tan a little more by using SNOT, but to be perfectly honest, I like what you did better. It has such a clean finish to it. Really nice - I I love the clean lines. I hope your father enjoys it. Quote
AmperZand Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I've walked past the building many times. Your MOC captures the look of the building absolutely perfectly. Even if I hadn't seen the thread's title or your post, I would instantly have recognised the pics as depicting the LWT Building. Splendid job! Quote
Legogal Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Wow! What a fine recreation of this building! It is very clean and smooth with a wonderful use of parts that make it look like the real building. Thanks for including the original building photo. Your Dad is so lucky to receive this as a gift. Congratulations! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Great work on capturing the look of the real thing The display stand is excellent too Quote
CamelBoy68 Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 Thanks for the words AmperZand, Legogal and soccerkid6 - much appreciated. A quick word about the plate: - the building is a snapshot of the LDD model, which had all the bricks coloured trans-clear (now that would be a great building ) and three of its sides removed (as the internal structure and other walls were showing through being totally transparent ), all to get a better blueprint feel to the display. henrysunset Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 This is a great model! the recessed grooves give the model a nice rhythm. I've added this to my collection of the best Modernist LEGO Architecture at https://www.pinterest.com/tomalphin/ Quote
KCMatze Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Wow, from a 1,5m distance to my PC monitor this thing just looks like the real deal. Absolutely brilliant and fitting into the architecture series!! Quote
Jared Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Wow, your dad is quite the lucky fellow to have a son like you! I don't build anything for my dad, and he's the one who bought me LEGO for years! XD That'll probably change soon though... Quote
jac wardrobe Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 As someone who also worked at the LWT building in wardrobe for a long time i really appreciate your brilliant model. I also run the LWT staff facebook page and the Kent House facebook page. Would you consider joining the kent house page please because i know lots of the ex employees of the company would really enjoy seeing your model. The studios have closed and building is due for demolition now which is a real shame. It makes your model all the more special - you may get orders! Thank you for sharing the images of your model it made my day and yes your dad is very lucky. Wonder if i knew him? Quote
