Their advantage is "minimal space" taken up on the narrow, congested roads in Europe. I lived in Berlin, Germany for 3 years and know that all of the American vehicles there looked ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS  and out-of-place, due to their large size. American semi trucks (operating in the wide-open spaces) have a "longnose" design to allow for easier access to the engine compartment, and to allow for better "crumple zone" crash protection in the event of a front-end collision.

And i always thinking that American trucks don't have crumple zone's at the front  , because off the ladder chassis, they like big trucks

If the B model is nose heavy, then why do the European heavy duty truck mfgs make them like that? There must be some advantage.

Another reason is that, at least here in Norway, there is a limit of 22 meters. So to get maximum load capacity they want to keep the pulling unit as short as possible. And maximum gross wight is by the way 50 tons.

IMO any weight adding is a bad idea... Just rebuild it so that tha battery box is lower, or by using offset servo motor on side (like Efferman) and a small, rechargable BB.

But with a rechargeable battery box you only have 7.2 volts... :sceptic:

Maybe by adding more bricks so that it would look even more like a dakar-truck, by giving the truck a full body on the rear and maybe some spare tyres, like the legendary DAF 95 X1 of Jan de Rooy, so the B-model has a better weight distribution.

True, but its so much lighter.. And besides fully charged battery box is somewhere 8,4V, not 7,2V.

Yes but it's very clear in that video that the crawler under performs with rechargeable batteries so I don't get why people use them.

Iv asked this a number of times but got no reply and that is why not use lithium AA batteries. There's been tests done with these on 8043 with huge gains. There lighter and more powerfull than both rechargeable or standard 1.5v AA batteries. Yes there expensive but they do last longer!

Anyone have any taughts on lithiums?

These are what I use iv a new set waiting for when I get my crawler!
