SkaForHire Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Well i haven't had much time to visit, or track ebay in the last couple months... so when i checked today for pirate stuff i noticed a couple things... first, the price hump, does it seem to anyone else that pirates are selling for about 20% more than they were this summer? Do you all think this is because of the holidays? and second... whats with the amount of clone being sold... if you search lego pirate ship you almost get 50% clone! though there is a crazy shop for 50 bucks american after shipping... i was tempted but our previous discussions on clone brands have turned me off to the idea. Scouty Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I KNOW! The clones are soooo annoying. I guess prices would jump up and bite a hole in your pocket. G, that's unfortunate. Hopefully they'll go down. It's like a roller coaster. Up down up down up down up... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 7, 2006 Governor Posted December 7, 2006 Well i haven't had much time to visit, or track ebay in the last couple months... so when i checked today for pirate stuff i noticed a couple things... This is why we have The Imperial Trading Post Record forum... first, the price hump, does it seem to anyone else that pirates are selling for about 20% more than they were this summer? Do you all think this is because of the holidays? Yes, definitely! More than 20% in some instances. Prices seem to be higher than ever. and second... whats with the amount of clone being sold... if you search lego pirate ship you almost get 50% clone! though there is a crazy shop for 50 bucks american after shipping... i was tempted but our previous discussions on clone brands have turned me off to the idea. Where are you searching and what are you searching with? eBay or other websites? In Asia you'll get 99% clone on eBay. Obviously Pirate LEGO is in demand but the authentic stuff is too expensive for some people who don't really care about quality so they buy the clones. Its a pity The LEGO Company doesn't bother to acknowledge this and profit from it. I.e. Release new or re-release old pirate sets... Quote
Sting Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Yes, definitely! More than 20% in some instances. Prices seem to be higher than ever. I wonder why! X-D Obviously Pirate LEGO is in demand but the authentic stuff is too expensive for some people who don't really care about quality so they buy the clones. Its a pity The LEGO Company doesn't bother to acknowledge this and profit from it. I.e. Release new or re-release old pirate sets... Are we really sure there is a big enough market for Pirate Lego? You would think that with Pirates of the Caribbean II being one of the highest grossing movies in History that Lego would have obviously caught onto this (maybe they have decided to have a Pirate line come out by the time the 3rd one hits theatres... but I doubt it). Every competitor has Pirate lines. Megablocks had its own "Pyrates" line (think SYSTEM), and now the POTC Line (Think LISCENCE). We would kill to get a new SYSTEM Pirates line and than a Pirate of the Caribbean line. I would just think that if there was a guaranteed market for Lego beyond AFOLs (I don't think we have as much buying power as we think (I am not sure about this. It seems that there are quite alot of AFOLs willing to spend alot...) Lego would have for sure tried tapping it. Does anyone know how well Megablocks is doing? I imagine it is X-mas. AFOLs going a little nuts perhaps, buying as much as they can. We will have to wait till after the Holidays to find out for sure. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 8, 2006 Governor Posted December 8, 2006 I would agree that the majority, if not all Pirate sets on eBay are purchased by AFOLs. But I don't believe its anything to do with Christmas because in past years Pirate LEGO hasn't sold as well. I remember in 2004 many sellers listed sets in December obviously hoping that would help them get a better price, but instead the eBay market seems to be saturated and the auctions attracted less bids. Something has changed though because so far that hasn't been the case. Quote
SkaForHire Posted December 9, 2006 Author Posted December 9, 2006 Well SES prices have not gone back to their prices of years past, but high for now anyway. I would agree that there is definitely a market in adult fans, but the question is how big... We have discussed the pirates coming back at the time of the third movie a lot since before the second one came out... I think they would have announced a new pirates line if they were going to have one out by may (thats still the American release date i believe for P3) Arguably kids will ask for P3 merchandise, and megablocks is still cheaper than lego... so perhaps lego would not benefit from a pirate line. however, i think they would get a number of secondary sales in months after the film as kids want to add new ships to their fleets to fight jack sparrow... so it could go either way. Anyway you have it, I would like to see new pirates not the old ones again, but i would accept them if that was the only choice. (just give me three new ships and a fort and I will shut up for 5-10 more years!) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 9, 2006 Governor Posted December 9, 2006 What were the Skulls Eye Schooner prices in past years? And which prices are you comparing them against? Quote
SkaForHire Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 What were the Skulls Eye Schooner prices in past years? And which prices are you comparing them against? well if you look at SES prices on ebay today you will find 2, the one has a buy it now at 215, that is almost what that set would have been worth in 2000... complete only missing box could go for 250 bucks... the other SES listed today is not even at 100... with the re release of 6285, prices slumped as one could technicly build an SES and sell it on ebay out of salvaged 6285 parts and bricklink ordered parts, which artificially stimulated the market. on top of that, people that were like "oh i just need to get one big ship!" bought the rereleased BSB... driving prices down on SES... anyway little history of SES economics there.... lol Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 11, 2006 Governor Posted December 11, 2006 It also depends on country and how well the auction is presented as to how much an item receive and the seller's ability to list the item sometimes has a large influence over its final price. Here is a link to eBay auctions for 6258 Smuggler's Shanty and a 6264 Forbidden Cove. If these auctions had pictures then I'd enter them in the Imperial Trading Post records. Nonetheless, even without pictures the Smuggler's Shanty still reached US$21.85 and the Forbidden Cove $US36.10. Quote
Norro Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I'm not sure... I just picked up this nice lot for a decent price... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 11, 2006 Governor Posted December 11, 2006 What do you call a decent price Mr Norro? Quote
Norro Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 They were 6.50 pounds, not great but considering one was boxed... God Bless, Nathan Quote
El Bucanero Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 They were 6.50 pounds, not great but considering one was boxed...God Bless, Nathan A piece or for all of it?? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 12, 2006 Governor Posted December 12, 2006 It wouldn't surprise me if it were 6.50 GPB for the lot being an UK auction. So that's US$12.80 or 9,64$ Euro Or A$16.20 in the local currency here and I very much doubt an Armada Sentry with a box would sell here for under A$20.00. Quote
Scouty Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 The way I see it (from my ebay anyways) They're going down. I see auctions with pretty stuff with no bids. Could just be me :capn: . Quote
Norro Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 A piece or for all of it?? For all three, plus 1.50 shipping... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 12, 2006 Governor Posted December 12, 2006 The way I see it (from my ebay anyways) They're going down. I see auctions with pretty stuff with no bids. Could just be me :capn: . Which region(s) are the sellers located? Quote
Scouty Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 United States. I'm looking most of the auctions in the US for shipping reasons. North America is also the possibility because some may be in Canada. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 12, 2006 Governor Posted December 12, 2006 I've noticed that the USA has always been cheaper than where I am, however parts of Europe like Belgium and France are cheaper still. Although they seem to be selling reasonably at the moment otherwise I would have bought some internationally myself. Which sets were these auctions for Mr ImperialScouts? This is why I've created The Imperial Trading Post Records to keep track of prices from all over the world. Quote
Capn Kirk 911 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Personaly, I would love it if the prices went down. But, sadly :'-( I know this would never happen. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 21, 2006 Governor Posted December 21, 2006 Cap'n Kirk, you're from the USA are you not? Quote
Governor Broadside Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 His location says Carmel, IN(diana), a US state. ;-) Quote
