Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 As can be observed in this image, where the double medival doors meet up they meet up perfectly. No overlap, no gaps, no nothing. So here is my question: How does one get those doors to do that? I am attempting to install doors like this on MY Armada Flagship, but am incapable of getting them to meet up. The doors are about 2 and a half nubs wide, whereas they need to be 3 nubs wide to meet up. I have tried everything I can think of to get them to work, but nomatter what, they either have an overlap or a 1-nub wide gap (the 1 nub actually being taken out of half of 2 nubs) Can anyone tell me what the trick is to getting these doors to line up? As I recall, I have NEVER been able to get them to work. Thank you, - Helden Quote
Norro Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 A common mistake, the 'holders' which attach the door must face out (perpendicularly to the door), as seen in these instructions. Hope that helps. God Bless, Nathan Quote
Sting Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 I used to have the same problem when I was young. It works perfect if the hinges face out. THat is how god intended it to be.... and by God I mean TLG. Quote
Governor Broadside Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 My problem is that some of my doors have a tiny gap of a fraction of an inch/millimeter when built correctly and the bricks with the door holders are straight. |-/ Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Wow! Works like a charm! *goes back to messing up the quarterdeck* Quote
Scouty Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Yeah, it's kinda a great piece the door set up because you can put it either way. Especially when there are different types and sizes of doors. It's nice how they fit so well together! Good job lego *y* ! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2006 Governor Posted November 24, 2006 A common mistake, the 'holders' which attach the door must face out (perpendicularly to the door), as seen in these instructions. Hope that helps. I had this problem once but it didn't last very long because I just rotate the holders until the problem went away. But my question to Lord Admiral Helden Ravensburg is: Why do you want doors on the Armada Flagship? Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Because I have always regarded that big opening under the quarterdeck as one of the sets major flaws. Since the space is too small to do anything with, I am simply walling it off with a door so that it LOOKS like theres a cabin back there. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2006 Governor Posted November 24, 2006 But you're not actually going to put a cabin back there, just merely allude to it? In that case then you probably should be using green doors like in Armada Sentry to create some kind of sub-theme colour consistency. Quote
Scouty Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 How goes the moc Admiral? I was looking at the picture again and I noticed, on the left side door, is that blue tape or is that a lego piece? Because the bottom "Hinge connector thingy" looks too low for that blue piece to be. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 27, 2006 Governor Posted November 27, 2006 Can we get a picture or which you speak (errr write) Mr ImperialScouts? Or is the image too big to post in the thread? Quote
Governor Broadside Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I think this is what he's talking about. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you ask me, I think the other blue parts around it could be slightly discolo(u)red, making the other one stand out more. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 27, 2006 Governor Posted November 27, 2006 Hmmmmm... Yes I see. Good work Governor Broadside! Come to think of it doors that low wouldn't be able to open because the studs would get it the way. Not that the doors need to open in this particular MOC. Quote
Hinckley Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 THat is how god intended it to be.... and by God I mean TLG. X-O Sacrelege! Shocking funny and true sacrelege! Hmmmmm... Yes I see. Good work Governor Broadside! Well done, Watson! X-D I love threads like this where people work together to help someone out. It truly warms my heart...and my aorta. Quote

Sir Dillon Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Come to think of it doors that low wouldn't be able to open because the studs would get it the way. Not that the doors need to open in this particular MOC. The doors are designed so that they slide freely over the studs, and it looks to me they are high enough in this creation, but I can't really tell. Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted November 28, 2006 Governor Posted November 28, 2006 The doors are designed so that they slide freely over the studs Egad! You're absolutely right Sir Dillion! I just went and tested this on a pair of doors to confirm. Quote
Scouty Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Aren't these doors lovely? You could use them door holders sticking in, but I think only if you us a 1x2 plate with one stud in the middle? Quote
oo7 Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 You could use them door holders sticking in, but I think only if you us a 1x2 plate with one stud in the middle? Nope. I just tried it out, I guess the hinges need to be facing out. Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Aye, i'd use green doors, but sadly, I havnt gots any of them :/ There is no where near enough space back there to put a proper cabin, so yes, its for looks only - that giant open space is, IMHO, one of the biggest flaws in the stock set. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you ask me, I think the other blue parts around it could be slightly discolo(u)red, making the other one stand out more. Admiral, you've yet to tell us about the blue thing there Governor Broadside is pointing at, is that tape? Because the hinge part looks low compared to that blue thing/brick... Quote
oo7 Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Well since it is not Heldon's picture I doubt he knows. It looks like tape to me. 8-| Quote
