slovakiasteph Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) Using only the pieces from Log Cabin 5766, I built what I call my "log cottage." I'm just getting back into Lego after playing with it as a child (mostly my brothers' Lego, although it belonged to the family). I bought the log cabin the other day... and built it four different ways yesterday. This was the last version: (using only the pieces from Log Cabin...) An outdoor stove, flower garden, a few bushes, and a dock. And from the back: Apparently my floor slants because I couldn't take a straight picture! The kitchen features a countertop, sink, and counter eating area. If you want to cook, you have to do that outside. I'm only slightly proud of this rather basic creation... can you tell? Whoops, sorry, don't know how to make the pics smaller... I had a hard enough time getting them in in the first place... prateek Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) Wow! This is great, especially for your first MOC. I like it much better than the official set. The front looks really nice, and I like the dock, and the open back is good to reach the great interior BTW, here's a tutorial on how to resize pictures Edited July 19, 2011 by prateek Quote
Zorbas Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 That's a very nice creation and you've certainly made a great use of the Log Cabin pieces. The overall shape reminds me of the classic town houses - small and cute. You should resize those pictures though since the maximum picture size allowed in EB is 800x600. I'll replace these with their respective links for now and you can follow the tutorial prateek provided (or ask me if you need any help). Once you're done, re-post the resized pics by editing your first post. Quote
meyerc13 Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I really like it! Since I was a child in the 80's, every proper LEGO building should have an open back like this. I have a question, how stable is the roof? I build LEGO now for my kids to play with, so sturdiness is important. Quote
slovakiasteph Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Okay, I have re-sized them, sorry. Thanks everyone for your nice comments! meyerc13: If kids were playing with it, I'd add a few layers of plates or 2x2s (like in the first build for the log cabin) to reinforce the roof. I'd have done so but was limiting myself to only the pieces included. I'm a child of the 80s too... and like those open backs. I was surprised by just how large the building turned out to be! Lots of bricks! Quote
AussieJimbo Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Nice work, slovakiasteph. Good use of the available pieces. :classic: Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 'slovakiasteph', not only a classic town style creation but also it is made in the true spirit of Lego ! Brick On 'slovakiasteph' ! Quote
slovakiasteph Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 No doubt influenced by my last Lego purchase (before this week)... 6592 Vacation Hideaway which came out in 1990. Mostly, I like that style because it seems European... I have a few similar houses I've been working on in LDD. Quote
slovakiasteph Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 Can you make insructions for that? If I knew how to make directions for it, I would... the only way I know how is through LDD... but I don't know that they have all the pieces. Also, my LDD hasn't been working-- it freezes and I can't fully open any documents. Is there another method I could use? Quote
