cavegod Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hi all, i have rough running tracks and need a solution to smooth them out. at the moment i have 2 large sprocket wheels at either end with 1 providing drive, along the bottom i have 1 small sprocket at each end with 4 wheel hubs in the middle to support the weight. it all works fine but the problem is the small sprocket wheels cause the tracks to run jumpy and not smoothly like the largesprockets do, is the a wheel of some sort that will give me smoother running? vmln8r Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Yes - replacing the small wheel hubs and the small sprocket with and should do the trick. Quote
cavegod Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 I should point out that they can only fit in the centre section of the tracks and one side as the other side is taken up by bricks. when you say use the pulleys and tyres do you mean run them in the centre slot of the links? the middle 4 wheels run smooth enough it's just the small sprockets either end that cause the notchy running. vmln8r Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 The pulleys and tyres won't fit in the centre of the tracks - only at the edges. This might help: indrik09 by mahjqa, on Flickr Could you post a picture or two of what you've got so far? Quote
cavegod Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 here we go, everything this side of the sprockets is a no go area. Quote
vmln8r Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 The frame to which all four sprockets are attached needs to be super secure (by which I mean not relying on the clutch power of bricks, but Technic beams and pins). I've found that the small diameter sprockets are pretty horrible in driven models, so together they might be the source of your troubles. Side note: do you need that much gear reduction? I'm guessing the worm gears won't last long (ie, they'll turn to dust). Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Woah worm gear on XL motor? Thats gonna be slow as hell and break everything... Quote
