nico71 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 The principle is very simple, I let you discover my mechanical tachometer : http://www.nico71.fr/centrifugal-tachometer/ Design for Fanabriques 2011 exhibition. Quote
allanp Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 That's cool. Wonder what happens if you use a pf motor Quote
nico71 Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 As the PFS-M motor turn slower, I must change the centrifugal governor : add weigh or increase the lenght of beam. :) Quote
parda Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 This is real tachometer! like the steam machines speed regulator. Congratulations! This will be featured on my blog soon Quote
Lasse D Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 (edited) This is a nice speedometer. Well done. (I'm used to calling the gauges in a car the speedometer and rev-counter, while confusing the odometer for the tachometer!) Edited June 6, 2011 by Lasse D Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Nice, educational model! Its simple, yet so cool! Good job, Nico! Quote
Ape Fight Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 That's brilliant!! I want to see this in a vehicle somehow. Quote
nico71 Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 To respond to this : http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=474926 first of all - THIS IS NOT A COPY OF Nico 71s version. He introduced it on 6 of June' date=' and you can see in my gallery, that my photos -pic 065 and 66- were taken at 29 of May. So WE are the inventors if these technology. It is much smaller, ideal for a car[/quote']I don't understand what is the interest to demonstrate that I have copy and THEY are the inventor of these technologies ? Because, first of all, I haven't search tachometer of BS before starting building mine and the idea has been in fact invented by Mr Watt, so Ok I have copied Watt but not them ^^ Be serious, why there are so much competition between builders ? I think it is really too bad, I create a moc a month, I don't care about reputation of grant or who are the "inventor" of technologies. Lego is hobby, not patents ! Nico, disapointed. Quote
Bartholomew Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) and the idea has been in fact invented by Mr Watt Nope, centrifugal governors were used in mills long before they were used in steam engines. By the way, James Watt did not even invent the steam engine He improved it and made it usable for industrial purposes, and casually introduced the unit "horsepower" to show potential customers how strong his machines were. But before him there were Blasco de Garay 1543, Denis Papin 1690, Thomas Savery 1698 and finally Thomas Newcomen 1712. Same with Edison and the light bulb, which was not invented by him, but improved to marketability, and that's what he is credited for. Anyway, I like your version more, because it is more solid an very usable for educational purpose. Edited June 9, 2011 by Bartholomew Quote
Lasse D Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 >nico71 He is most likely responding to one or more trolls who have shown him your creation and made some unsubstantiated claims about it. Quote
parda Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Thinks like this trollings where so bad for technic builders... We are some kind of brotherhood, and all we build together, that's our hobby. lately the atmosphere is a bit tense... Trolls got to study a little more... Nice creations, one better for educational use, and the other is better to implement in a moc. Quote

Nice model though Nico, I agree that it is very educational. Quote
allanp Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I also noticed the other design on youtube and I thought it was pretty good for it's smaller size, but was also dissapointed by the unnecessary and childish description Quote
