The news item says it all - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110527/ap_on_re_us/us_blackbeard_s_ship

I think it's pretty cool, makes me really want to build the thing now, but I have to wait a few weeks before I can afford it. I did recently build Whiecap Bay and I love it, it's much bigger than I thought it would be, and I like the modular design. Anyway, I think it's a pretty cool coincidence that they're recovering the wreckage of the Queen Anne's Revenge just when we all get to see her on screen and build her out of LEGO. :)

Althouh I never knew anything about the QAR before the LEGO set arrived, I find this is quite interesting. It's funny that this is happening at the same time as the release of OST. Thanks for sharing, Cammy!

It's almost too perfect of timing. :pir-hmpf_bad:

That's such a big coincidence, thanks for sharing

Btw, did you post this from your A1200? I guess there's no way to have it go on the Internet, or is there?

Um yeah ....the wreakage thought to be the QAR was found over ten years ago. Why bring it up now ?

And why not one of the cannons from the site or something else of interest. Maybe I'm being a little harsh but it's more than a little odd that they're doing it now.imperialguard_commander1.gif

It's a conspiracy!

Or maybe this recent Pirates of the Caribbean movie has inspired investors to fund archaeologists and now they can now afford to recover parts of the wreckage.

We need to launch a reconnaissance mission at once!

TazManiac, sail over to the site of the wreckage and make careful observations. Return promptly with your findings.

In 1997, under the direction of the Underwater Archaeology Branch of the North Carolina Division of Archives and History, archaeologists began exploring, documenting, and recovering archaeological remains at the Queen Anne's Revenge shipwreck site."

"Since the start of the Queen Anne's Revenge shipwreck project in 1996, tens of thousands of artifacts have been recovered and many of those have received at least a preliminary level of analysis. Many more still lie on the seabed or remain encased in concretion at the QAR laboratory."

Unfortunately this forum doesn't display too well through the old web browser I use on my A1200, which does indeed spend most of its time on the internet, but I use my Efika running MorphOS or my PCs running Aros or Linux to post on this forum since their browsers are up-to-date.

As for the anchor that was recovered, I read that it's no coincidence that they're using the hype surrounding the film to increase interest and draw in tourists. It makes sense, and if it helps pay to have the remaining wreckage recovered so it can be displayed in museums for everyone to see then I'm all for it.

It sure makes me want to pick up the QAR from layby and build it, which I might be able to afford soon. :)
