efferman Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) A new Project and a new Question: what Want you see more: a 4x4 or a 6x6 ? picture source Picture Source (post 29) Edited February 8, 2011 by efferman Quote
Milan Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 4x4 looks better, imo. 6x6 would be more interesting to make, regarding chassis. I like this 6x6: PICTURE Quote
efferman Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 maybe is your Picture and my Picture the same chassis. yes you are right, the 4x4 looks better but have anybody seen out there a 6x6 in a lego version? btw, i have made a first shape test. please ignore the colour and i have modified my willys axle. now it has 1:5 and hopefully no jumping gears. Zerobricks Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 IMo 6x6 is a waste of bricks and useless added weight, unless you will drive with such a heavy load, that it may need another rear axle. Quote

mahjqa Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 my thought was, that the additional Axle would add a lot of traction. or should i wait with this experiment till the 15to mil gl? Adding more axles does not add more traction. Traction is dependent on weight. The more weight on a wheel, the more traction it has. If you add two more wheels, the weight of the vehicle will (in the best scenario) be evenly distributed over all the wheels. Quote
efferman Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) ok, then i will wait with this "experiment" edit: a little thumbnail Edited February 8, 2011 by efferman Quote
Sam42 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I'd say 6x6, for the wow factor! It's true it's a fallacy that 6wd will give more grip than 4wd, more flotation, yes, grip, no. However a 6x6 mog WILL give you a longer wheelbase improving hill and step climbing capabilities at the sacrifice of turning circle, Howabout a slightly non prototypical 6 wheel drive 4 wheel steer with a steering rear axle for the best of both worlds? Howabout a slightly non prototypical 6 wheel drive 4 wheel steer with a steering rear axle for the best of both worlds? a 6x6x4? hm, the steering system would be complex. i think i must sleep a night about it. wait a moment why not going really complex? picture source Quote
Sam42 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 australian army wrecker? I've looked for chassis illustrations for the 6x6 mog but really struggled to get anything useful.... Quote
efferman Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 not in special Army, but an Offroad Tow Truck would imho look nice and a steerable rear axle would make sense Quote
Sam42 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 i like the direction.... There's something on my work bench at the moment being developed that would look nice on the back of a 6x6 unimog- IMAG0005 by sam2442, on Flickr Quote
efferman Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 hm, a logging crane is nothing for me. If i build a crane then an other one. but iam waiting for your finished crane i have a new Drivers Cab update now i know that i have to less yellow and black tiles Quote
Zerobricks Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 That looks very good! An older cab type from 80's? Quote
efferman Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) It should be a newer one, used on the Heavy Terrain Series. since the 80s the cab was only updated in little details. mostly at the radiator grill. The 8110 Unimog is used for the Communal Road Duty. They have portal Axles, but a relativ normal Truck Chassis. The U20 is for smaller things. Where the big ones are to big and normal trucks are have not enough offroad capabilitys Picture source Edited February 8, 2011 by efferman Quote
grohl Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Regarding the 6x6 version. Here is the winner of previous season of the Czech Lego Technic Truck Trial. Quote
efferman Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) Regarding the 6x6 version. Here is the winner of previous season of the Czech Lego Technic Truck Trial. oh, iam not the first? anyway i have me decided to build a 6x6x4 Now i must only find a way, that the hoses doesnt jumps from the cylinders. Iam planning a pneumatic or hydraulic steering system like this pneumatic would have the advantage, that is easier to repair than the hydraulic version. But would it be exact too? edit: it seems that pneumatics would work Edited February 9, 2011 by efferman Quote
Out of Sight Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 hm, a logging crane is nothing for me. If i build a crane then an other one. but iam waiting for your finished crane i have a new Drivers Cab update now i know that i have to less yellow and black tiles OMG!! I'm a big fan of Mog...that's a genuine replication of the current UHN heavy duty series cab! When I saw the correct proportion of your earlier pic of the cab, I just knew this would be a superb replica, I guess I was right. Great job! I like how you'd replicated the newer model's grill with MB logo made of steering wheels! Now how about adding an orange marker light? remember this is a newer model, the marker lights are lower in height compared to the previous older model! Suddenly the upcoming Lego U400 becomes less tempting after seeing this! Quote
Sam42 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Those hubs look strong with the frames around the axle ends, is that how you eliminated the gear slip? and grohl who's blue unimog is that? I've seen it before on czech tt pics on bshelf but never managed to track any details, Regarding my timber crane in progress it's either gonna end up as a long logger with a dolly trailer riding piggy back on it or as one of the truck mounted separate timber loading cranes that seem popular in sweden, but i can't decide which! Still waiting til i have the cash for a lego direct order to finish the chassis and the crane's gonna take a while to refine once i've got it piped up so i have a long time to make my mind up... Suddenly the upcoming Lego U400 becomes less tempting after seeing this! Thanks, blueprints are a big help to get the right proportions. pump it up to the tire size and then hold the bricks on the screen and place it at the correct angle.the little round part above the "Mercedes Star" should simulate an old Mercedes Logo which i have seen on a older unimog. the transparent tile under the star have only one reason: i have not enough yellow 1x1 tiles Or did you mean an other part? And please, say nothing about an U400. I try to keep this ugly thing out of my mind. the first thing what i will do with the 8110 is, is mounting an heavy duty series Cab on it. it looks thousand times better Those hubs look strong with the frames around the axle ends, is that how you eliminated the gear slip? Yes, that is the reason. And currently i only hope that it will eliminate the gear slip. I have it not tested till yet. Quote
Out of Sight Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 the transparent tile under the star have only one reason: i have not enough yellow 1x1 tiles Or did you mean an other part? I meant these marker lights...the ones in the corner. Will these be a single cab Mog, are you planning to make a DoKa (Dobel Kabin)? It would be sweet too, considering this will be a work Mog, long wheelbase. Btw efferman, since I have zero doubt about your skills, is there a possibility of making the legendary classic Unimog 406? I would literally kill myself if this could be done using Lego bricks. Quote
efferman Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 aaah, those details are coming later, and no it will be a single cab. A "Doppelkabine" looks not good in my Eyes. sorry, for a 406 i have not enough skills in bent surfaces. Quote
Out of Sight Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Oh yes...I mispelled it LOL. No prob, doka or not your MOC, let's call it 'MOG' instead is really good. I can't wait to see the end result. An instruction for the cabin would be excellent. Please update regularly on your build Quote
grohl Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) Sam 42 The Unimog is the creation of a guy with nickname "a-s-s.". He has won the last years' championship as well with another Unimog. Edited February 10, 2011 by grohl Quote
