So, that's 34 figs total (33 of them pirate)

First I'll ask, how much would you pay for all of this? (US dollars)

$100 with shipping would be a decent deal. $150 would be more expensive but a decent top price especially if you wanted the set badly enough. $50 would be a steal and more along the lines of what I would hope to pay.

None were mint or even in box so I would say that if you paid more than $150 you paid to much.

100 dollars would be cheap, really:

6244: 12

1729: 25

6296: 30

1788: 25

6248: 11

those are the lowest prices on bl; in all about 100 dollars

+

34 minifigs, let's say 1 dollar for a minifig, which is rather cheap, 134 dollars would be a cheap bl price

i'd say 150-170 dollars would be decent, 200 probably a bit high, below 150, would be a great deal

ah yes, before shipping!

You definitely don't want to be paying 25 for Treasure Chest without its box - its the box that makes the set special, and without it Treasure Chest is merely a parts pack to most. Although I actually do like the set as mentioned in a review I did of the set some time back...

In total, I paid $160 (shipping included).

Which is good, considering I bought it all from one store.

If I had searched for the lowest prices on all the items, then I would have had to purchase them from multiple stores and the shipping costs would have probably been much higher with doing that.

I don't mind not having the boxes, I'm currently running out of space in my room because of lego boxes *sing*

its the box that makes the set special

I actually had the set like a decade ago.

Some of the pieces went missing and the box is probably sitting in a landfill somewhere. *sad*

I'm most excited about the 34 figs I got.

It's nice to know that pirates, for the most part are cheaper than castle figs!

Wow! Who is the seller, that is a great deal!

The seller is "Legos for Learning", a U.S. seller.

I got all the good pirate sets and figs but the seller does have a decent deal on the "Night Lord's Castle" set.

Complete with box and instructions. $72.50

The set design sucks but it is a pretty good parts pack.

The generic pirates found in sets from 1989 to 1995 are cheap so never pay much for them... The later "Spanish" pirates however are a different story, since they're rare they're usually quite expensive, especially that one with the anchor on his chest.

If you ever see him really cheap - GET HIM!!!

Wow, I got two guys like that when I purchased a Red Beard Runner a few weeks ago.

I've been trying to stock up on pirate figs and sets recently.

Better to do it now, before they start increasing in prices like classic castle.

That particular torso and head only comes in 3 different sets (Red Beard Runner being one of them) so that's why its so rare. Where did you acquire your Red Beard Runner from and how much was it?

I got mine for $120 off of bricklink.

That's a little high but the sails, parts, and instructions are in "like new" condition

and the seller was in my country, so shipping wasn't expensive.

I also bought a few other pirate sets with it.

The cheapest one on bricklink right now is $95.

All the cheapest sets seem to be in europe (particularly the UK)

Lucky them!

If you've seen Count Sneffy's (Snefroe) latest Pirate thread then you'll read he's observed that prices are quite cheap in Belgium. I've seen some ridiculously cheap Pirate LEGO auctions in Belgium and France so if you live in the region then it would be wise to take advantage of this.

Is this price in USA dollars because if it is I think that is still is still much to be paying for a Red Beard Runner as this ship is no Skulls Eye Schooner or Black Seas Barracuda. But what was the condition of this Red Beard Runner you made purchase for? Perhaps if it was brand new in its box then that would be a fine price to be paying.

The other bit of information I'd like to know is: If this Red Beard Runner did come with box (either MISB or just MIB condition) was it the original 1996 version or the 2001 re-release?

The 2001 re-release would probably be cheaper than the 1996 in terms of whether it included a box. But if no box is included then obviously you wouldn't be able to tell the difference which version it was given that the box was the only difference between the two.

It was the original 1996 version.

It wasn't new.

The ship had been put together once and then taken apart and put back into the box.

All the pieces looked new.

The box had a large rip in one corner.

I suppose that's a reason price to be paying for your Red Beard Runner given that I haven't seen any cheaper in recent times. Does this price include postage though, or was that extra?

And the other thing I've forgot to ask is: Which currency are you using? I assume American dollars being BrickLink but you might have converted it to your local currency for all I know. Because if it was $120 Hong Kong dollars then it would be a terrific deal!

Shall you be placing a bid for Mr Jamtf?

Nah, already have one and owning just one is fine. I got mine for free as a gift you see... still sealed also...

I have one too but its opened so I would buy a copy in MISB condition, but alas my finances do not permit for this particular auction.

My finances would - if I planned things first - but fact is that this set is located in the US and that importing the set will probably result in me paying huge importing duties and additional VAT since it is coming from outside the European Union. Our customs knows how to handle this and they tend to raise extra taxes which makes buying expensive sets in the US somewhat risky. You could end up paying more than 1/5 extra (besides the higher shipping fee) because of that. Quite annoying to say the least. :(

It will not be easy to find an affordable copy of this set in MISB condition though so you might want to reconsider your thoughts... Usually, eBay is the place to buy, you can forget about finding this for cheap on BL. There is one on BL for $65.00 but it has some questionable comments about a replaced boat for an excellent one (why would that be necessary in case of a sealed set?).

The seller claims that the set was only available as a promotional set in the US in 1995. I happen to have a European copy of the set of the same era. He is right that this used to be a promotional set. I was told that these sets had been available through a cookie factory or cookie distributor in The Netherlands. You had to collect stamps or bar codes or whatever and pay a small extra amount to get this set. I think the name of the company was Konkinklijke Peijnenburg B.V. and they sold a certain line of cookies under the brand name "Kapitein Koek" (Dutch for Captain Cookie). See following link:
