I've used LDD throughout the years. A while ago I've been unable to make it work on my main PC. I'm using a Radeon HD 4870 X2 and Windows 7. When I open LDD 4.0 it will crash the video display. The error I get is "Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered" However, I don't know what I did, but I uninstalled LDD then downloaded LDD 4 and reinstalled it. It worked once, then the next time I opened it it failed to work. I can only close LDD4 through the task manager via End Process. My PC is kept up to date constantly especially the video card. I've tried disabling the advanced graphics in the .ini file. I have Lego Universe. I even enabled Universe mode before I installed Lego Universe. I tried turning off universe mode. Other than use another computer, what could I do to make it work on this one?

Try disabling crossfire.

Try disabling crossfire.

It is disabled. I only have one video card so I can't have crossfire. The x2 is a specific video card that has 2 GPU's on it.

What if you try an older graphics driver?

An older graphics driver might work, but it doesn't change the fact that my video card has 2 GPU's on it which I think is the main problem. The latest directx is installed.

I'm now using an older graphics card which seems to work really well, just gotta switch the cable in the back of my PC. So now I have 2 video cards installed in my PC, one ATI and one NVidia. I suggest anyone else having this problem to try this out.

Your not alone, I have 4870 X2 card also and get exactly the same problem but on 64 bit Vista. I noticed the problem when LDD 4.0 came out and was hoping that an update or a new graphics driver would fix the problem, so far it has not.

Please update this thread if you find a solution.

Ok I have a solution by means of another error! I just updated to the latest drivers 11.1 (01/26/2011) and Civ-V stopped working in Dx10/11 mode so since they added a patch for crossfire enhancements in Civ-V I assumed they broke it.. Whilst I was looking for older versions of the drivers I found that the old packages (catalyst+drivers) do not contain the right drivers.. go figure (ain't this company great! </sarcasm>) well anyway I loaded a much older driver [10-1_vista64_win7_64_dd] (thats 10.1 from jan 2010) downloaded as driver only without catalyst and now all works fine, in both Civ-V and LDD... So perhaps They should give up writing newer drivers..

Thats ATI for you... They suck at making drivers. Glad it works now!
