DLuders Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 On his Brickshelf gallery, "Crowkillers" (Paul Boratko) has posted these 8 images of his Work In Progress (WIP) -- a "2011 Supercar [with] V8 rear wheel drive with suspension and 4 function control box." They do not yet appear on the Crowkillers website, and the car is different from his New Modular Project. I wonder what the exterior will look like? Any guesses? There are four functions labelled on the photo below, which appear to be: (1) Steering wheel and Hand Of God (HOG) steering, (2) 4-speed Gearbox, (3) working fake V8 engine, and (4) suspension, but I could be mistaken. The 4-function control box on the central stickshift controls these functions somehow.... Quote
TechnicJuan Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 It looks like this one is going to have quite a bit of action with features. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out compared to Lego's 8070 supercar. The control box is obviously different from the 8070 model in what position operates what feature. Also love the HOG and cockpit combined steering. The guy certainly builds solid stuff that's for sure. Looking forward to the end result. What part is he using for the Shifter? I don't recognize that. It is a technic part? Quote
flyz Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Hmm... Front engine, RWD. I hope it's an SLS AMG. If it's not, it will be awesome anyway. Quote
allanp Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 looks to have the exact same functions as the up coming supercar, so which is better will depend on it's looks! Quote
Meatman Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) After looking at the preliminary pictures of the 8070 it appears to be very different. Then again it would be about impossible to build an exact replica of the 8070 just from the few pictures that we currently have. I wonder if he'll motorize this or not. I also wonder if the Lego 8070 has a working driver's steering wheel? I cannot wait until March to find out. Edited December 20, 2010 by Meatman Quote
buddy Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 It looks great so far, I can't wait to see it finished! ~buddy~ Quote
Crtlego Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 It looks amazing as usual!! I really like how everything fits so perfectly. I don't think the fourth function is suspension though.. All four shocks are locked in place so it wouldn't make sense unless he plans on changing it later..? Quote
DLuders Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 (edited) Crowkillers just posted this (silent) YouTube video of his 2011 Lego Supercar. He wrote, " http://www.crowkillers.com 2011 Lego Technic Supercar built in studless design with full suspension, both Hand of God steering and also inside the car, V8 engine and 4 function control box that is operated by shifting into 4 different positions and turning a knob in the rear. Turning clockwise opens all functions and counter clockwise closes all functions." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzYgAkXU_Fs Images of the completed car will appear soon on this Brickshelf folder (when moderated) . Zerobricks Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Its cool and all, but he should try something else, maybe an SUV, pickup, not just allways supercars. Quote
TechnicJuan Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 At first glance it appears to be a knock off of the upcoming 8070 Supercar. But after comaparing the 2, it is quite obvious that this is much different than the car soon to be released by Lego. It looks like he did quite a few interesting things with this new model. And Zblj, there is nothing wrong because he enjoys building cars. Apparently cars is what he likes to do, and there is no reason to build something that you are not passionate about doing. There are people that strictly build minifig buildings and are excellent at it, but that doesn't mean that they should start building pirate ships. At least these are my thoughts. Its cool and all, but he should try something else, maybe an SUV, pickup, not just allways supercars. I don't know what ever happened to this, but it looks like he was planning on doing some type of truck Quote
Meatman Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 (edited) The pics are up at brickshelf. Amazing use of the new panels. Very impressive. Edited December 20, 2010 by Meatman Quote
GuiliuG Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 It's beautiful but i find the functions too fast. Quote
Blakbird Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 It's beautiful but i find the functions too fast. Since the functions are based on turning a crank (not a motor), you can make them as slow as you like. Quote
Meatman Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Since the functions are based on turning a crank (not a motor), you can make them as slow as you like. That is a good point. also, from the 8070 pictures it appears that they have used some worm gears. At least I think they are worm gears. that would definitely work for slowing things down and also work really well if you are using a motor. By the way Blakbird, I seen the renders of the Murcielago on brickshelf. Very nice job. Does this possibly mean that instructions may be on the way? Quote
Blakbird Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 By the way Blakbird, I seen the renders of the Murcielago on brickshelf. Very nice job. Does this possibly mean that instructions may be on the way? At the moment, it means that I am building one and I needed to create a file to figure out which parts I need. I am happy to share the file if anyone wants it, but at this point it does not have all the building steps in it. I don't know if I will create them. If I am able to build the model from the file without the discrete building steps, I'll probably leave it alone. If I need to add steps to help me figure it out, then I'll do that. I don't plan on making full PDF instructions though, although someone else could take my file and use it to do that. I have made about 30 submodels in the file, so it is broken up into small enough pieces that it should be buildable using nothing but LDView for visualization. Quote
Meatman Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Thanks Blakbird. I appreciate your input. It appears that someone out there has built Paul's model. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=455013 It looks like they have a few errors in the door area though. Have you built the model yourself? From the pictures in Paul's folder, it looks fantastic. Quote

This allows me to see that all the parts line up and I have done it correctly. I haven't built the physical model yet, but I am collecting the parts to do so right now. Quote

I was curious about the doors he designed on his Murcielago. Are they true to Lego specs? It looks to me like some of the angles that he achieved throughout the car may not all be "legal" so to speak. I am looking forward to building his model. I have been trying to collect the parts, but I can't find some of them. Quote

There are a lot of tricks here to make all the angles, including the fact that the doors and sills taper inward toward the back slightly. But everything is done with pins and pivot points; no part stressing. It was a nightmare to make in MLCAD! Quote
Meatman Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Thanks again Blakbird! I am hoping that crow gets some new pictures up, especially of the center of the Murcielago. I can make out pretty much everything else, but the middle has me slightly confused. I am also not sure how the rear is exactly done. I am also really intrigued with this new Supercar that he has constructed. The body seems moderately simple, but yet also very well done and very eye appealing. I am also curious as to how he packed all of those functions into such a tight space. Edited December 22, 2010 by Meatman Quote

I eventually figured it out by just adding one piece at a time from each view where I could see something. I'm pretty sure I got it right, or at least close enough. Quote
Meatman Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Some of the yellow parts that he used are no longer in production and I cannot find them anywhere. Quote
Blakbird Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Some of the yellow parts that he used are no longer in production and I cannot find them anywhere. That's true. If you choose to build it in red or black it will be 100x easier to get parts. Nothing we can do about that except that hope LEGO starts making these parts in yellow again. Quote

Ugh! not another red car I was so excited to be able to possibly build this in yellow only to find out that so many parts are so hard to get. Black also looks to be out of the question as I also cannot find any of the long flexible axles in black and the long skinny panels in the front also don't come in black. Quote
