DLuders Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 On MOCPages, BricksOnWheels posted 8 pictures and an extensive narrative on his NICE Peterbilt 379 "Eldorado" Dumper. He wrote, "I have made it somewhat of a tradition to build some radical work in the December month, so this year it should be no exception. After building the black 1:17 PF driven Peterbilt with dumptrailer I thought that it would be cool to build a customized dumptruck in 1:13 big scale, as I had also never constructed a big scale dumper before." "Browsing the web and some magazines and books I noticed that some really wild customized dumptrucks actually do exist. You cannot imagine driving your polished beauty in the dirt all day, but some do, and these babies are cleaned for a week before they enter a show. After some inspiring hours I knew exactly what to build: a retro stylish Peterbilt in 70’s look with uncommon colors and chromed out. I ended up designing it a bit Cadillac style, hence the name ‘Eldorado’, after the famous Cadillac type." "The building routine has been as usual, but once more I tried to improve the level of detail. The chassis is color matched and features airride suspension, constructed with small Lego tyres to serve as the main parts, which looks really accurate. The engine is fully chromed, and has a detailed gearbox to it. Underneath the chassis there are many many lights to illuminate the underside of the truck. The front suspension and brakes are chromed too, and during Lego shows I will put it on display with a special replicated jig, to display it with one wheel of to show all the detail when the hood is opened." "The cabin I made more triangular now. I have had some appreciated comments on that in the past, and as the cabin house also gets wider on the real trucks I have implemented this now too. The bodywork was quite a challenge picking unusual Lego colors, as many parts were hard to find. The interior is as custom as it needs to be with trimmed seats special dash and chromed steering wheel." "The rear part of the chassis has 3 axles, where the first one can be lifted and has only one tire for extra support. This area is also detailed with chromed tanks, differentials and stacks. The dumpbox itself is hinged at the rear, and can be lifted. The rear plate is fully chromed. The part that I like most myself is the cover for the load that works like a rolling curtain. This is fully functional." "All in all a very nice truck to have worked on. To me another step forward in detailing. I hope you like it too!" See 9 photos on BricksOnWheels Flickr photostream. Quote
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I like this model a lot as all of his creations...he knows... Quote
Zerobricks Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Thats really cool looking. I think suspension is a bit low, but who cares, as its obvious its not meant to be driven. Quote
CP5670 Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I love all the chrome this guy uses. It gives the models a very polished look. Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 (edited) Wow...that is awesome. Edited December 4, 2010 by dhc6twinotter Quote
buddy Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 A great creation, it size, functionality and looks are amazing! ~buddy~ Quote
Bricksonwheels Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Thnx guys... indeed it is low, but that is air suspension which normally can be pumped up. Quote
Blakbird Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Unbelievable. I can't find the words....... Quote
RohanBeckett Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 nice reflections in the hubcaps! awesome model.... makes me sigh... as I know TLG will never produce anything like this for sale.. ..and if they did, I couldn't afford it... ....and I just don't have enough spare time to build one myself!! Milan Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 One of the top three LEGO trucks, ever! wow... Quote
Bricksonwheels Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 One of the top three LEGO trucks, ever! wow... I am curious which ones you refer to? And Rohan... indeed, that reflection makes it swipe proof Quote
grohl Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 /grohl is staring speachless while his jawbone is moving rapidly down/ THIS IS AWESOME, I LOVE EVERY DETAIL OF THIS MOC. Quote
sverre Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Holy cow!! Best looking truck ever! I love the details and colours. Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 It's a stunning truck! The only thing I don't like is the support beam to the rolling curtain, I think this would look better witout the technic beam-holes in it. Quote
bord4kop Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 This is (yet another!) beautiful piece of design.. Really, how do you do these things each time? Quote
Marckeyh Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Wow, this model is massive, it makes those giant wheels look small! The interior is my favorite bit, it's so detailed. The seats are so cool. Can't wait to see your next creation. Quote
Bricksonwheels Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I tend to agree with you Arnesson. I have actually had simular thoughts. Originally I used chromed bricks for those but is was too much. I will update it with tiles with pins mounted on the beams. Plates underneath would make it look to 'fat'. Quote
Fistach Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Awesome details! Nice (different, rare colors). Cons: It doesn't have steering nor PF (I know it's model team but still lack of steering is terrible) Quote
Bricksonwheels Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) Awesome details! Nice (different, rare colors). Cons: It doesn't have steering nor PF (I know it's model team but still lack of steering is terrible) I never understand these obvious mandatory needs for something. This is a stationary truck and it can steer, but there is basically totally no need as this is a static display only. It is not to play with This one is purely designed to be an eyecatcher on shows, and not to demonstrate technology. So i don't understand why to call that terrible. A while ago i wanted to build something that could drive and steer PF driven, just to get a feeling with the new Lego parts, but you still sacrifice on detail level. This is the truck below .. Technically it is great, but i love the static ones with more detail the most. And I have driven it only 50 meters in total I think. I even took the batteries out to avoid leaking Edited December 11, 2010 by Bricksonwheels Quote
DLuders Posted July 13, 2011 Author Posted July 13, 2011 On his Flickr photostream, BricksOnWheels recently posted 7 pictures of "Two 379 Peterbilts together. On the right a conversion from the 'Eldorado' Dumper to be found in my stream elsewhere. I rebuilded the engine, changed the chassis from the cabin rearwards, and added a lot of extra parts. The white Peterbilt is a new build, inspired by the 'Radically Topless' Hot Rod truck i have build in 2009. I wanted to build a 'smooth' newskool truck with a sporty yet agressive appeal. A lot of detail has gone into it." Quote
Milan Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Did you chrom the Parts yourself Yes, he did. He has his own BL store and a way to chrome pieces. Quote
