LDDtechnician Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Hi! Im looking for a topic I remember but cant find. It contained some creative home-made bricks that I need for my 8263 Snowgroomer project. I tried the search facility. Thanks! LDDTechnician Quote
Superkalle Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Are you talking about physcial bricks or digital bricks? If physcial, you'd be better of posting this in Lego General If digital, it must have been in LDraw, because to my knowledge no one has yet managed to do any custom bricks for LDD. Quote

LDDTechnician said it was going to be WIP - work in progress; i.e. they were going to do it rather than as a request for someone else... although no reason for two - creative ideas especially to complicated problems. Nice model by the way. Quote

Zerobricks Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Bojan Pavsic tryed, but he only managed to unlock bricks hidden in program, which was later officially supported by Lego as LU mode. Quote

shiroitenshi Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Hi all, In the software LDD, lif files are like zip files. When they are extracted, then it is possible to make some changes. Some are quite simple: - Add new colors in the palette - Add new decals http://img401.images...i/52182716.png/ Other more complex: - Add new parts http://img706.images...i/78038208.png/ - Create sub parts of a part for coloring - Fix some connection problems These same parts also exist in Lego Universe (the game), there are approximately over 200 additional parts. It is then possible to use these new parts in LDD http://img839.images...i/52101850.png/ If this post is a problem, I will delete it. (sorry for my english) goodbye Edited October 6, 2010 by shiroitenshi Quote

I cant find them in LDD LU. Quote
Superkalle Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hello and welcome to the LDD forum. Please tell more how you did this, and how to access the parts. Quote
shiroitenshi Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) I have made some tools in Java to extract the lif file content from LDD and pk file content from Lego Universe (the game) When the files are extracted, you put these files in your appdata, example C:\Users\shiroitenshi\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer And it works ! I can make available the extracted files Edited October 6, 2010 by shiroitenshi Quote
Calabar Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Very interesting! There is only a problem: ldd 4 is next to be released, and than it could be wasted work! Perhaps we should wait fot LDD 4, and then try to do the same thing. If that trick should work with LDD 4 too, we could organize an "unofficial LDD pack", so that all LDD users could access to all pieces used in our LDD creations. PS: about extra decals, did you use ad a custom decal or a ready decal taken by Lego Universe Game? Edited October 6, 2010 by Calabar Quote
shiroitenshi Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I have made a transparent png from a decal in the SPACE Decals index (thx Lamanda2) But i can extract decals from Lego Universe Quote
Calabar Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I have made a transparent png from a decal in the SPACE Decals index (thx Lamanda2) But i can extract decals from Lego Universe That's great.. personalized decals! Could you extract ALL the models of Universe Game? (with an automatic process, I mean) Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Also is there any way to import more bricks like more wheels, technic bits etc... Quote
Randal Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I am extremely interested in the added decals. I make an LDD comic and the current torso decal selection is laughable. If I had access to many more, I would be very grateful. I'd like to see instructions how with an included set of decals posted here. Please and thank you. Quote
Superkalle Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Great stuff! I'm guessing the additional 200+ parts will be in LDD4, so those we'll get our wet little nerdy LDD hands on soon anyway But the custom decorations is very interesting Shiroitenshi, can you explain some more? From Bojans earlier work and posts here at EB, we know that the DB.LIF file contains all the part+geometry+connectivity information, as well as a folder with Decorations. The problem has been to re-compile the LIF-file with any custom decorations in and get LDD to accept it. At least that's what I have understood. Quote
shiroitenshi Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) How to do ? LDD is closed and Lego Universe in LDD is activated use 7-zip to unzip the files http://www.7-zip.org/ Get the file db.7z Unzip the db.7z in the same directory as preference.ini For Windows 7 and Vista it can be found here C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\ For Windows XP here: C:\Documents And Settings\UserName\ApplicationData\Lego Company\Lego Digital Designer\ Rename/delete the file db.lif Get the file Definitions.7z Unzip the Definitions.7z in the Assets directory For Windows 7 and Vista it can be found here C:\Program Files (x86)\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Assets For Windows XP here: C:\Program Files\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Assets It's done, you can start LDD ! (^_^)V Now you have access to more than 200 additional parts coming from Lego Universe. And you can customize LDD. How to add new Custom Decals ? Be careful, a lot of parts don't have UV mapping (texture coordinate), then it's not possible to add custom decals. I think it is better to be confined to parts already defined in the file DecorationMapping.xml. And it is best to follow the surfaces accepting decals. First, close LDD. Make your decal with transparent color in background, then resize it to 128*128 (unlock Picture's aspect ratio) Copy it in the Decorations directory and give it a filename with 5 digits (mine start at 90000.png) Get the part number for the part you want to add a custom decal. Edit the file DecorationMapping.xml in the Definition directory, add a new line at the end of file Example: use 90001.png with part 3814 (minifig's torso) on the surface 1 <Mapping decorationID="90001" designID="3814" surfaceID="1"/> You can start LDD. if you make a mistake by not complying with the instructions, LDD could crash. How to remove my files ? Close LDD, then delete the directory db For Windows 7 and Vista it can be found here C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\ For Windows XP here: C:\Documents And Settings\UserName\ApplicationData\Lego Company\Lego Digital Designer\ Delete the directory Definitions For Windows 7 and Vista it can be found here C:\Program Files (x86)\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Assets For Windows XP here: C:\Program Files\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Assets Start LDD. Great stuff! The problem has been to re-compile the LIF-file with any custom decorations in and get LDD to accept it. At least that's what I have understood. You don't have to reconstruct the lif files, LDD use directories with the same name if it find them. db.lif contains : db |---Assemblies | xml files (Parts's Assemblies, if a part is referenced here, you can't use this part alone) |---Decorations | png files (all the decals available in LDD, only size 128*128 for decals, only filename with numbers) |---Primitives | xml files (description of each parts, have sub part, connection information like axel rail ...) | |--- lod0 g files (contains 3d structure, vertexes, faces, [uv mapping], face normals) Definitions.lif contains : Definitions |---DecorationMapping.xml | Relation between parts, decals and sub part |---MaterialSelector.xml colors palette in LDD Edited October 7, 2010 by shiroitenshi Quote
Superkalle Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 @shiroitenshi: Last time Bojan show us about the internal of the DB.lif, there was some discussion about if this is legal or not (reverese engineering), partly since we didn't want to get into trouble with TLG. Let me try to check this out with TLG. In the meantime, can you please remove the links to the DB-file. I'll try to get back with info as soon as possible, ok? Quote
