bricked one Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Looks awesome in yellow, the most amazing part is how it moves around! Quote
Marin Stipković Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 That looks like a lot of fun! One of the most amazing LEGO things I've seen, and in such a small scale! Quote
mgmchenry Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 That is amazing. I have to build one! Incredible work! Very impressive. So, what's the cheapest way for me to go about getting the power functions I need to drive that thing? Quote

mgmchenry Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 An 8043 has all the PF's you need, other than that bricklink? Yeah, I'm still learning bricklink. I've only placed two orders there so far, but I've discovered it has some interface issues. For instance, say there are a few critical parts you need. It's not too hard to find the best price or to see what else the seller has to offer. But somehow there always seems to be another $50 in parts in my shopping cart by the time I check out. I'm not sure how that happens... :) In all seriousness, I just meant ask whether there is a kit that is the most economical way to get the parts, or are they cheaper parted out. $200 excavator... I'm not going to get that past the wife any time soon. parted out on bricklink... $8 motor x4 + $6 battery box + $10 control unit x2 + $15 (what the? why?) receiver x2 = $88 All of a sudden, $200 for an excavator sounds like an excellent deal. But still too high. If I found it for $50, I'd probably buy it, but I'm not holding my breath. I've looked at some of the other sets the motors come in and they all look over-priced to me. Lego makes a high-quality product, so I'm not going to complain. I'm just going to accept that someone has decided the power functions parts are for people with way too much money. Fifteen dollars for a receiver that probably cost one or two dollars to make? Lunacy! How is the bulldozer $300? Meanwhile, I got my son a refurb Dell 3.2Ghz P4 that runs LDD very nicely for $100. That's value. Quote
le60head Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Great work! The first time i saw those kind of wheels was in a TV show, on some kind of a forklift. I see you've achieved to make them from lego with great success! I'm impresed ( and inspired! ) Thanks for the LDD model! I'll examine it in depth! Also, congrats on the idea on how to modify the two PF remotes! I'll definately try it. I started a topic about your creation in my own forum / here /, not forgetting to leave a back-link. Hope you don't mind! Also included some history about the "Mecanum wheels" by Bengt Ilon. I think it will inspire a lot of people. Once more, great work! Quote
Superkalle Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Like mentioned above, these wheel should be called Mechanum wheels, not Omni-wheels. Omni-wheels have their perfirically rollers mounted perpendicular, whereas a Mecanum wheel has them at around 45 degrees (which enables them go sideways mounted in front/rear pairs). Seems also the Mechanum wheel as invented by a Swede. Isn't that nice Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Ooooh! I've had the on my harddrive for ages, never even thought about trying to build it with bricks!I've built a few Killough-platforms in LEGO but this looks (at least) equally fun! Edit: It's quite obvious I like re-inventions of the wheel! :) Edited October 22, 2010 by Tobbe Arnesson Quote
dolittle Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Hi, I tried loading it into LDD and it reported that a few blocks (6 as I recall) couldn't be fit and were removed, basically the back side... Any idea why? and how I can fix this? Thanks, Noam Quote
Zerobricks Posted December 23, 2010 Author Posted December 23, 2010 The 4 M motors are corrupted in LDD 4.0 and they take with them one receiver and one brick, nothing you can do about it... Quote

Hi, Thanks for the prompt reply, I was more worried that it was missing something I couldn't easily spot. Thanks, Noam Quote
