i have a worm gear on top of a 16 tooth gear and its slow as you expect i need to speed it up a bit any ideas, but i need high tork as well remember about the hight of a worm gear on top of a 16 tooth gear, you may need to moc something up

Gearing something down, then up is inefficient. A worm gear is even more so. Can't you just gear something down a little less?

Also, starting a topic with the title 'question' may not be such a great idea. It may get confusing if there's another person with a question. Perhaps you could try something a little more descriptive like 'question about worm gearing' or something like that.

a 12 tooth gear will not go as i dont want the hight to be changhed

Something's going to have to change if you want to change the gear ratio. Would it be that hard to move the XL motor down one plate? It wouldn't affect the height of the tread sprockets.

Well why cant you use studless, to get everything in place with a 8 tooth gear? XL motors and studded dont mix well, and especially worm gears are totally not okay for Xl motor.
