Zerobricks Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 So for the challenge i decided to try to build an unfolding robot capable of driving. To top it off i tryed to make it as small as possible. Here is the result: The two half spheres protect the rover and allow for it to roll. Rover drilling into a rock to: Various views of the structure: To power up the functions I used 2 M motors. The motors propell the wheel and sphere parts, but the sphere parts are connected via clutch gears, which slip once the sphere are at final positions, while the drivingw heels still keep on turning. Its a crude solution but it allowed me to cram everything into a sphere with 17 studs diameter. As always a video: Quote
efferman Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 once again a really cool idea. I wish you much luck for the challenge Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I'm truly astounded by the originality of this creation. Wonder where you get those tremendous ceative idea's. Quote
ProducePrincess Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Thats a very clever idea and everything fits in nicely. If this were a real rover would the outside frame be covered in plates for added protection? It would help in harsh weather conditions and protect more fragile componets. My only problem with this is the digging shovel looks like it would be a little akward to use. Quote
